There is a 79 Malibu rear end with a Posi for sale locally and I was wondering if the Posi and gears would fit my '72 10 bolt rear end under my Skylark?
no , the 78-88 g bodies use the smaller 7.5 10 bolt components, junk (unless ya look at the turbo buicks and olds 442 from the mid 80's .they have the 8.5 , hard to find though ) . where your 72 has the 8.5 10bolt, which is much larger and stronger yet the 68-72 have totally different mounts and demensions then the 78-88 chassis
Cheep, Can you add your city state to your header and add at least your first name to your signature line???? As for posi units, see the site below and read the article on finding and removing posi units.
if you want to go used find a 2nd gen f body (z28, t/a) they usually had posi's and were 8.5 after 72. you can get new clutches through randy's ring and pinion. i did the rear in my 79 z28. don't forget, if you strip a rear end of it's parts keep the nice side bearing shims that are cast iron. they are much nicer to use than the service packs from gm. good luck.
