hello, i am in the middle of restoring my 69 stage and just ran across a 76 buick regal w/ a 307 v-8 t tops and power everything. the car runs and the owner said it needs a heater core installed.he only wants 400.00 for it. what i want to no is is this 307 a buick motor? is the heater core hard to put in if i were to buy the car. i have worked on my own cars for a long time but have never put a heater core in. what is involved in this job? thanks
Sorry to say it, but the 307 is an Olds motor. I haven't done a heater core myself, but I hear they can be a hassle.
As far as I know the Olds 307 wasn't available in 1976. If thats an original Olds engine in there, its probably a 260.
i'll look today and see what the tag says under the hood. the body is in great shape but the t-tops leak. i'm sure if i decide to buy the car i could get some new seals. to bad it is an olds motor don't no anything about them.
I just did a heater core swap in an 85 Regal last month. It took exactly two hours and that was with one of my kids asking, "What's this do, what's that do?" every five minutes. I'm not sure how similar the 76 is though. Good luck. If that really does have the Olds 307 in there, it will be all ready for the Buick 455 swap as far as motor mounts! MARK
Those are nice cars, especially if its been down in Tennesee the whole time. A buddy of mines sister bought one from the Carolinas years ago, that car was absolutely MINT, right down to the original spare with the chrome Buick mag wheel. BUTTTTTT, It had the 305 Chevy motor in it, it ran ok, but it woulda ran better with the 350 Buick in itp If in fact its an Olds engine the oil fill should be sticking straight up on the front of the motor, basically a metal tube with the cap on it. If the cars in good shape, it would be a good canidate for a 350 or 455 Buick:TU: Mark
