    Hello all!

I put a down payment on a motor/tranny today from a 74 LeSabre, and I want to put it in my 70 GS 455 so I can get it running again. Both are stock, unmodified, and original. Not sure what tranny there is in the LeSabre.

Never having done an engine swap before, is there anything specific I should know? Any Gotchas I should worry about with the swap? Any parts I need to buy? Aside from cleaning, is there anything that is easier to do with the motor out of the car that I should go ahead and do "while I'm at it"?

Thanks in advance for the info.

That is easy just use the 74 455 with all the 70's accy's and bolt it in that will get you some service while you put another hotter combo together in the 70 engine. While its out just change out the gaskets on the pan and valve covers and whatever else needs replaced gasket wise and install no problems!!

The 74 should be an 800 cfm carb so that will be needed for the next set up you go with!! The trans in the Lesabre is just a long tail not good for much if you have room to store it fine but if not dont sweat it there are a lot of those around..

Also I think the mounts on the engine are moved backwards to be able to bolt in the GS.

Call me if you get into a bind I will check with my event cooridinator (wife) and see when I can help for a few......:eek2:

    Thanks!

I appreciate the advice Mike. Since I know were one is, would this be the time to put on a switch-pitch?

Yes a pump and converter are easier to put in with the engine and trans out.
