I bought a rear end unit from a shady seller on ebay.
His Ebay ID is - jhoppeolds
Never buy from a guy . He sold the unit at full price and it was garbage. The gears are so sharp you can cut with them, totally worn down.
so anyway, I found an another gear (ring and pinion) set but I still need the posi unit or at least the spider gears.

Its a 73 riviera with the 9 3/8 buick rear end.
Will any of the aftermarket posi units fit into that case ?

I really don't think this particular forum is the appropriate place for this discussion, but I feel I must defend myself. I offered a full refund of the purchase price plus the return shipping costs and you never returned the item. Ebay sided with me in the dispute. I've sold a few items over the years on the v8buick site and over 800 on ebay and have had no complaints. I have no desire to argue over this in this forum, but, again, I feel I must at least respond in some manner.

    wortex_rpm,

    NO aftermarket posi units.

I looked into this ebay auction. IF the item that is pictured was shipped...IT APPEARS to be in good used condition. NOW if the item that is pictured was not sent, well.... I can not help.

What parts were KNIFE edged? Post pictures of the unit you received.

I also repair these units and I also have gear to fit that posi unit 2.73 same that was offered in the auction.

    Another question for you.
Your 1973 Riviera rear end cover look ROUND with 12 bolts or more square cover? Also how does your rear bolt into the riviera 4 link 2 lower and 2 upper??? If so I have a COMPLETE 3.23 12 bolt FULL size posi rear end for sale...PLus posi units too.

As far as the sale went??? That is between you 2 guys. Sounds like your both willing to get it solved so I would just get it done and taken care of.

V8 Buick forum offers a seller buyer feedback and this is where this info can be placed. Jim

    Work it out guys :beer

Yes, the spider gears are sharp as a knife. The seller 2st did not wanted to do anything but then offered a refund. The trouble is as I stated to him earlier I shipped it to the customer who is in europe. So to bring that junk back would be more then I paid for it. :blast:
I got screwed big time with this scrap metal pile. We used the ring and pinion after some cleaning of 4 hours mostly because its better then original but still worn down. The whole diff was so filthy it was impossible to see whats in there. 4 hours of massive cleaning revealed the junk.

so I do not need anything else but the actual posi unit or the spider gears only.
We have 2 worn unit, one is the oem and one is the ebay unit. We could rig the two together and make one thats working if we have a useable spider gear set. The original diff exploded and destroyed most everything inside. I guess lack of fluid or more likely worn cracked support bearings.

I attached the picture of the ebay purchase. Decide yourself how nice these gears are. I personally would throw these into the garbage before try to sell to an innocent buyer on ebay. But that's just me, I have standards.

its a 9 3/8 olds/buick rear end. I told the owner to scrap that and put a chevy 8.5 or 9.5 rear end with axles under the car but he says it can not be done.
The cost was an another matter, shipping a complete carrier with brakes and stuff would be extremely high. He might be able to find one in europe but he wants to keep that buick original.

so this means nobody has a posi unit for the 9 3/8 olds/buick rear end ? Why ? What happened to that rear end ? Only buick and olds used it for a few years and then they also dropped it ?

to : jhoppeolds - This is a drivetrain forum. I'm looking for a drivetrain part. I got a defective unit from you on ebay. its the perfect forum to discuss this.
I emailed you several times before I bid on your item. I asked you to state the condition BEFORE I bought it. The unit you pictured was NOT the unit I got. I wish I that I would have taken a picture of it, no better yet I wish I would have shipped it back immediately after I got it.
It was so filthy you could not even tell weather it had anything decent or not. I'm guessing it was in your yard for about 5 years and you once had a decent unit which you pictured.
This unit was nowhere near that nice then the one on the picture.
As I said the ring gear and pinion is useable. No trouble on that the spider gears are gone. The trouble is we really needed the posi unit only. You even emailed back that if I buy your unit I will have the posi unit and a left-over ring/pinion.
The original ring/pinion was bad but we found a correct ratio 2.93 ring/pinion for 100 but since your was supposed to be "perfectly good" we bought yours. its wrong ratio anyway but in order to save some of the 300 I spent we will use these gears.

I'm not saying you did not sell 800 + units and most or maybe even all people are happy with theirs,, but you sold me a junker. Its the end of the story. I know what I got even though you don't know what you shipped me. This is where I get upset as you had no idea what was under that mud what you shipped me, yet told me it will be decent, usable.
Not the fact that you sold me a bad one, the fact that you called an unknown unit a good one bothers me so much. I had faith in you and I shipped the whole unit as is.

yes, its the round shape 9 3/8 out of a 73 riviera. I think it was a common rear end in those years. So why no support for it now ?
How much do you want for a posi unit ? Will it match up to the 2.73 I got from the ebay seller ?

Simple. Lack of demand to warrant the development costs, tooling costs and potential return on investment & profit. Pretty basic business decision.
