    Hi all
My son blew the upper rad hose on his Electra. He said he shut it down before the "stop" or "temp" light came on. We towed it home (only about 1/2 a mile from the house). He tried to restart it (it had cooled down) but after turning over about 5 times the starter made a grinding noise. I had him turn the engine over with a johnson bar to a) make sure the engine wasn't seized and b) to see if the ring gear had a bad spot that the starter was hitting. Same noise so he pulled the starter and bought a new one. He put the starter on yesterday and after trying to start it he heard the same noise again. Off comes the starter and it is cracked in the same way. Prior to the rad hose blowing he had no issues with the starter/flywheel. Keep in mind all this starter changing etc is being done on his back on the frozen ground with snow piling up all around so he isn't too excitied about trying yet another starter if the beast is just going to crack the next one after a few cranks.
He said the car did try to start but then the starter went. Suggestions on what to look for or has he toasted the engine (he did run it hot the week before and as soon as he saw the "temp" light he pulled over and let it cool down). No milkshake when looking at the oil and no oil floating in the coolant so I don't think he did anydamage to the heads/headgaskets. Thanks in advance!

only things that will crack a housing are , hitting the key w/motor running-timing off so you backfire during cranking(you dont allways hear it)or i am afraid in your case, water in the cylinders. :ball:
