My '73 Electra has a 12 bolt non-posi rear and most probably 2.73 I would like to find a Posi diff for it, but keep the gear ratio - not looking for a great launch - just reduce wheel spin and perhaps better traction in ice&snow So, the question is: what GM posi rears should I be looking for to find a match for my Buick? There aren't that many Buicks around here, so I'm hoping there are other GM rears that will match as well.
The Electra will have a '71+ version 9 3/8 Buick rear. The 9 3/8 was not used in Pontiac B series or Cadillacs. An errant Olds 98 might have recieved a 9 3/8, but I've yet to pull a posi out of one. In the '71+ 9 3/8 rears, a 2.73 ratio takes the high ratio carrier. The 2.93-3.23 mid rato carrier & the 3.42 low ratio carrier are more in demand, so something ought to pop up here in the wanted ads. Good luck. :3gears: Roger
There's a guy on here from Idaho with one for sale, $350 - good price imho, all things considered. If I hadn't already put a posi in my existing 8.5" rear, I'd be seriously looking into getting this one.
