ST 72 = 1972 model year 4 34 37; 34 = GS ... using 1971 numbering convention????? what the heck? in 72 the 34 is supposed to be a 'G'. 4 = buick, 37 = 2dr hardtop coupe 76149 BDY = sequential production number for the body TR 134 = a 71 trim code for standard sandalwood interior in a convertible/skylark?? i'm not seeing this # listed in 72 A65 = unknown, if this is a paint code it directly conflicts with the following code 53 T Pnt = Cortez Gold w/ 'Covert' colored vinyl top 03 D = march, 4th week production
Buick used a 'G' in the VIN, Fisher continued using '34' on the cowl tag - they were two different companies. Covert is a light tan color.
Come on guys.... "T" is the top's color, I assume vinyl, and he doesn't have a convertible(thats what they meant by convert)... In 71 "E" was a light tan top color, but I don't have my Fischer stuff here to look up the "T". In 71, 134 is Sandalwood. In 72, I guess Framingham had left overs???? I do NOT see 134 available in 72... o No: Isn't A65 Notchback bench seat in 72? :Brow:
Dan - Different trim codes between Fisher and Buick in 1972 Fisher code 134 was Buick code 244 (which isn't even on the order form o No: ). Atlanta Buick has the cross-reference chart - I'd suggest saving it :beer
Well the headliner is white and what was left of the door panels was white also it was a bench seat ,it didnt have bucket seat brackets on what was left of the floor. The dash looks like a blackish brown color. So i'm thinking the seats were white
Buick used a 'G' in the VIN, Fisher continued using '34' on the cowl tag - they were two different companies. yes, but the two digit numerical model code came from the 65-71 VINs. and my 'Catalog of American ID Numbers' claims that Fisher adopted the letter designation for the model the same year the GM divisions did. have you been seeing 73^ body tags that continued to use the two digit numericals after this convention had been abandoned by the divisions? schweeeeeet! www.AtlantaBuick.com is back! that's been down since near the beginning of the year. i figgured they was gone fer good.
Here are a set of tags that came off a 71???-72??? 4 door car I parted out. Vin is 71....cowl tag is 72.Must have been leftovers used...and no they werent mixed up they are as they came off the car. Car had both 71 and 72 stuff on it.72 grille 71 interior.
Hmmmmm Kinda neat Pat. But how would you know if anyone ever monkeyed around a bit before it arrived to you? The vin is early in the 71 model year, and built in Flint. There are many cars built after that one, and do NOT have 72 Fischer body plate info, then ad in the 01C body date.... I'm not sure that vin was originally attached to that body at Fischer. o No: Need more info and facts. Also if Buick did one that way, there would be others.... Where are they? o No: Sounds like that 72 may have been a nice car with a vin problem to me, not that things like that have been done before.
Hi bobkmando For 1972 Buick 'A' bodies, your book 'Catalog of American ID Numbers' is wrong. 1973 started '4AD37' on the cowl tags.
ID plate 1972 Skylark = D 3327=4D27 3337=4D37 3369=4D69 Skylark Custom = H 4437=4H37 4467=4H67 4439=4H39 4469=4H69 GS = G 3437=4G37 3467=4G67 Sportwagon = F 3436=4F36
The trim tags for 72 do indeed use the full numerical designation, only the VIN uses G for GS, etc. ALL my 72's (four total) were like that. Its even in the Buick GM parts book, they still refer to the GS as 434 models...and in the 72 chassis book as well, they have a list that shows "code" as 43437 and the "VIN code" as 4G37 for a hardtop. 72 AMA specs lists model no as 43437 for GS hardtop. A65 is the notchback bench. My ragtop has this, it has been documented though GM and the AMA specs for 72. Cortez gold, covert vinyl roof, covert interior. Faded and old covert would look almost white...not sure if you can get thsoe panels in that color anymore (I know you can't get convertible top), most people just go sandalwood. Interesting combo as I have a very rusty #'s matching 72 GS 455 here, solid gold but with saddle interior (parts car). later Tim
