Here is a pic of my 72 SunCoupe I bought off Ebay a few months back. It is a good solid car that was originally a 350-2 setup and we have just converted to a 455 with a Muncie 4-speed. The transplant has worked out excellent. Just put 100 miles on it the past two days and it works great. Here is a pic of the car from the weekend, it still has the original factory paint.
Thanks, this car was on Ebay 3 times without a single bid. It was 3,000 miles away from me(Salem Oregon) but I followed up with the owner(original owner) and picked it up for $2,900. I was very nicely surprised when it got here to me in Ontario. It has perfect chrome, absolutely no rust anywhere and was clean in all respects. Just took off those hubcaps - installed rallye wheels, put in new springs, dropped in a 455 and learned a lot about 4-speed conversions. I know there must be a few SunCoupe's up here in Canada, but I have not ever seen one. Here is another pic I will post a few pictures of the interior. Reg
nice car Reg!!! i'm a owner of a Sun Coupe and i love it!!! your Sunny looks better than the mine... hey Erik, i can't login in your webpage and the foreign section is off. anti-nonDutch tactics?
Reg, Where are you in Port Elgin? I am not far from you here in Clarksburg. It's about half-way between Owen Sound and Collingwood. I would love the opportunity to come drool over your hot rods. I'm GS nuts, I just don't own one yet.
Reg, Welcome to the Sun Coupe family. I have a listing of quite a few Sun Coupe owners in the US and Canada that I'll email you. I'm in the process of restoring mine. The biggest problems I've heard about related to the roof, which was an option installed by another company. No parts are available except for a repro handle from Poston's. I've gone through three of the repro handles since 1995. The metal they used is too soft and quickly strips out. I'm trying to figure out a way to adapt a different, stronger handle to the Sun Coupe. My advice is to be easy on your original handle when you open the roof, eh? When I figure out how to make my digital photos 800x800 or less, I'll post my work in progress Beautiful ride! :beer :
SunCoupe72 any idea about the number of Sun Coupes made for export? the mine is an export model since the speedometer is in Km/h. imported new in '72 to Barcelona, Spain and exposed in the GM stand of the International Auto Show. Sunburst Yellow, black vinil, roof and interior, De Luxe hubcaps, 350 2-bbl/TH 350, open 2.56 gears, power front discs, power steering, air con, rear defroster, remote mirror, mirror map light, power windows, power door locks, power bench seat, arm rest, head rests, retractable seat belts, indash clock... the previous owner made some mods and now the 'Lark is red with black hood stripes and no vinil top...
Look for a little plate saying General Motors, Suisse S.A. under the bonnet, maybe your car is made in Bienne/Biele, Switzerland
Other than our Canadian brothers to the North, you are the first foreign Sun Coupe owner I've ever heard of! Sounds like a great ride! I don't know how many Sun Coupes were exported. Other than yours, I know there are 6 or 7 cars in Canada. I suggest you go to this website, fill out a VIN research request form, and send it with $25.00 to the Sloan Museum. They will look up your car's original order form and send you a copy. Why don't you email them first to see what they can do for you. They may be able to answer your car export questions. https://sloanmuseum.com/research_form.html :TU:
