Small detail but Driver side hood scope is supposed to
be triangular not square on 72(I think)---I have a square
and triangle on my 72--maybe mine is wrong! :Dou:
Pete--Would love to have the car though :3gears: +1

That thing seems way overpriced to me at $36K with that sorry excuse of a GSX look alike conversion  . I would say they would be pushing it at half that price.

Air cleaner is wrong, car is supposed to be a bench seat car too. My brother had a '72 Stage 1 4spd Convt that he sold several years back and it was my understanding that all 4spd Buicks came with a bench seat. That looked like a nice car however.

Well if all 4 Speed Buicks came with a bench seat some of us would be out of luck. Fourtunatly they could come either way, bench seat or buckets. But on the other hand this car has many issues, still has GS emblems on it, no GSX lettering on the quarters, no GSX lettering on the spoiler, no hood tachometer, wrong shifter ball, paint looks like it has to much metallic in it, grille is not painted correctly, wrong fan shroud, rear tray cut out for speakers, has buick emblem on the dash and not a GSX one, and the trunk needs to be repainted. Need I go on?

This isnt MY car or even someone that i remotely know..but i HATE it when people feel the need to tear apart someone elses car no matter if its correct or not your taste or has a few wrong items on it. Its still a nice ride period. Usually the people tearing it up dont even have that nice of a car....just my 2 cents. :moonu:

This looks like the same car that was for sale in North Canton Ohio for the past year for about $29K and change.

Whether it is right or wrong, I like it. Also he is not advertising it as a GSX which I also like.

    Cheers

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

    good and bad

Ray like you I dont like people putting cars down but I have to say I do like it when people post all the things wrong on the car so others of us that dont know all about the cars can learn what is correct.. as long as people just point out things and dont do it in a negative way I think it is a great way to learn more everyday but on that note I dont like 72 bumpers so I plan to put 71 bumpers on my 72 skylark and I am sure some people will tell me it is wrong but its my car I will do with it what I want and I dont mind people telling me just dont be a S.O.B. about it and we will get along fine.... :beer

Yeah Ryan, nothing wrong with pointing out incorrect things but alot of times i find people just like to tear other people rides up because its not their taste or has non stock items etc etc. Just ranting, its all good! :beer

You need to understand this part of the board is here for a reason. We go through this every time someone posts a car they find on EBay and people list the pros and cons about it. We list cars and parts here in this section to review them by people who use this part of the board. If you dont like it then dont read in this section. So in Leigh mans terms we have the right to take a look at this car as we did yours when it was for sale "GSXray", and either say it is what it is or it is not correct. We all want each other's help here on this board, and believe it or not we list things on here that are and are not correct so others won't dump all of their hard earned money on something they think is 100% right for their application. So on the other hand I can say sure my clone is not restored, so I suppose this means my car is a pile? Well for all intensive purposes I could car less what anyone thinks about it. I am sure you can do some of the judging by looking at my avatar yourself. No I don't have a trailer that costs as much as my car to tow it in, but it still gives us the god given right to look at this car, and if it's a bird we will call it a bird, and if it's not then we will call it well.... something that doesn't fly. We are all here to help each other with cars and parts, no matter if the application is correct or not. The car itself as you can see is in some nature a cloned GSX. So if someone wanted to buy this car and they did not know the difference between a correctly cloned GSX and one that is not, how would they bid with confidence. If this auction was never discussed in detail then we would see a sucker born again. If you read through our responses on this car you can see we are pointing out what is wrong with it, we haven't overstepped our boundaries and begin to put the car down. Of course the car is really nice, but if someone trys to clone a car no matter to what extent you better be ready to here the downsides of the resto job. We are all here to help each other, there are some that do put things down to a greater extent, but if you look back at ANY of my posts on this board you might see a side of me you don't have a clue about. So I suggest you do a little bit more research here on this forum before throwing your weight around. This is my 2 cents, spend it wisely.

I wasnt specifically adressing you Andrew, so before you decide to chastize me i am entitled to my opinion and i dont need to throw my weight around as you put it.. I know your kind very well. Not everyone cares about things bieng 100 percent correct. Ive owned over 40 musclecars from rustboxes to show winning concours cars so i know EXACTLY what im talking about here. I have just as much right to post here as you do buddy. So what makes you think you have any CLUE about me either?

Andrew- Many people add the GSX stripes to their cars. In many cases their not trying to "clone" the car into a GSX. I personally think Stratomist blue cars look very nice with the addition of the stripes. As Randy pointed out, he's not advertising it as a GSX or even a GSX clone. The fan shroud is a correct 72 BB shroud, even has the hole on it for the strap. As far as the trunk, the paint looks fine to me :Do No: . Whatever you think of the car, its a numbers matching 72 Stage 1 4 speed which is 1 of only 101 cars produced. Very rare indeed :Smarty: I dont think he's too far off in his price. I would be curious to know what you think it might be worth.

Not to stir the pot but add some clarification, regarding the #'s matching:

Maybe, maybe not, no one knows for sure. "THE MOTOR IS A CORRECT WS STAGE 1 BLOCK AND WE LOOKED FOR THE VIN # BUT COULD NOT LOCATE IT BUT WE BELIEVE IT TO BE THE ORIGINAL MOTOR TO THE CAR. " Didn't see anywhere that the rest of the running gear was #'s matching either.

Don't know what the 4 speed adds to the price and the non original things add or detract from the price, but IIRC, we just saw two very nice 72 Stage 1 auto matching numbers cars (Bill's and Fred's) change hands for less than $30k.

And yes, this car has been for sale for a very long time, and was priced around $29k, (which may be their reserve, who knows) but they might have done all that work they mention after that, so they had to raise the price. I also think it might have been at a different dealership before, but I am not sure about that.

I should have read the text of the auction a little more carefully. I was studying the pictures too much :Dou: . But I bet ya the engine is correct. WS blocks arent the easiest thing to get a hold of. But just for the purposes of this discussion, lets assume the engine and trans are correct. As far as what the 4 speed add to the price, it's debatable to say the least. Most of the price guides sayto add 5% to the price. I would say alot more. I looked this car up just out of curiosity on the NADA website. Interestingly....they say the high retail value would be 47,520 for a 4 speed w/ AC. The automatic AC car is priced at 45,360. Sure, there are good deals to be had now and then as evidenced by Bill's 72 and Fred's rosewood 71. But I think that those examples are exceptions to the rule.

Here is the ad for it in Canton, renewed as of 12/1/05, price of $29k and change. http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/9/6/75762896.htm

Were these cars good deals compared to other musclecars? Absolutely. Compared to a 70 Stage 1. You bet. Will we be saying what a great deal these guys good on these cars a year from now. Probably. But IMO, Fred and Bill's cars TODAY both represent Market Price (at least public market price), for 71/72's, and are the rule rather than the exception. I can't recall seeing a Stage 1 hardtop (again 71/72) non GSX car being sold (or even bid?) for more than $30k recently. Volo has one they are asking $39k for, but we all know that what Volo asks certainly does not dictate market price.

Of course I am far from the expert on these things, and don't track pricing on 71/72's as closely as I do for 70's, as I am looking to buy a 70 convertible(which means I will most likely also be looking to sell a 70 hardtop), and not a 71/72, so you have to take what I say with a grain of salt. :Comp:

I am a pretty mellow guy so I will choose my words wisely. First of all don't persuade yourself into believing that you know "My Kind" (as stated by you), becuase believe me you DON"T!!! No one ever said it had to be 100% correct, if you read what I said in my first post to you it was listed right there pretty carefully. And for the most part you telling me that you have been into muscle cars for 40 years does not really hold much weight with me. WHY??? Because the conversation was about the cars correctness as compared to a GSX and what we thought about it, not your portfolio of Holliness. Next up, I never said you could not post on here, but if you spent more time doing so in this section of the forum you might see we discuss things in this manner all the time regarding cars up for sale on EBay, remember that is the heading of this section. And last of all I never said I knew you or your kind. I thought I kept my message pretty clear that if you had a problem with how we were discussing this car up for sale that we would give you a reason for doing so. The reason is because it looks like a GSX, it's painted like a GSX, so therefore we have reason to look at it's correctness and it's flaws. I know it was not stated in the auction that it was a CLONE, but call it my bad, sorry....... throw on a hood tach and then maybe we will talk.

I do understand that people add stripes to thier cars, especially since I am doing that to my own skylark. I also understand that they may not be turning their car into a clone. And yes I agree, I do this Stratomist Blue is a great looking color, as a matter of fact that is what color I am changing my Skylark into. I pointed out the trunk because the rest of the car looks pretty nice, but the trunk is a bit shady looking. Now regarding the #'s matching, well I think that has yet to been seen. Now to the price, well I think his car is worth whatever he thinks it's worth. If you asked me to give you a price on my car you might not like it, but it's what I think it's worth to me anyhow. I hope he gets every penny of his asking price, I never disputed what he was asking or how much it was worth.
