    I am running male hei type distributer an i cant figure out what wire goes to my distributer? In the pictures there is a black,brown,blue,green an a black wire that has like brownish or goldish faded color with it that has a insert at the end

    You really do need a voltmeter! Better yet a volt/ohm meter

    Never heard of a male type hei. What was in it before? All you need is ign source
    (+ with key on). And tach if you have tach. If u have a test light. Try each wire for + with key on. If you find one then test it while cranking. If it no light up for crank then find another wire. If you dont have an availbe wire in your hand there. You can run a wire from the acc spot on fuse box. As long as its not hot with key off

    This is the distributer im using not sure what was used before i bought the car without motor an transmission saved it from the crusher i got a hell of a deal on it straight body everything there interior ect. But wiring is kicking my ass. The wiring an harness is all there just some of the wires were cut an made everything harder i have wiring diagrams 72 Manuel skylark book but not giving me everything i need. Are you saying find a wire that has + with key on an im able to use it for my distributer

    Is that a small block Chevy? The big red wire is the 12 volt feed. The other ones go to the module inside the distributor. Your car had a points type unit before. 12 volts to start and 8 volts to run with a resistor wire.
    Youll need to find a 10-15 amp 12 volt supply to fire the HEI.

    Ya its a 69 small block chevy all high performance built bottom end too top, when i bought the car it had chevy mounts on it i was recently looking for a nova for my first car first build but then i saw this skylark an loved it i had the small block sitting on a stand at home that me an my uncle were building for a year i asked the yard what was the plan with it they said its going to be crushed i worked out a deal an trailerd it home my small block is conversion with a turbo 350 buick transmission i know why have this motor in the skylark but i wanted the car an put all my money into the chevy before i had the car, i know cause of this the wiring is going to be difficult but i already got the motor turned over by key starter is hooked up i just need distributer hooked up an do my timing an adjustment on carb an get alternator hooked up
