    I have a 69 small block chevy in my 72 skylark im needing help on addressing what wires go to my distributer hei, my engine turns over with the starter wires connected when i turn the key but my back light stay on constantly what wire would go to my distributer

    Charles, how many threads have you started to answer the same question?:D There is only one power connection to a GM HEI distributor. Doesn't matter one bit what make GM engine you have, Chevy, Olds, Buick, Pontiac, etc. Exact same connection. The GM HEI uses full battery voltage all the time. That power wire is part of the engine harness. That particular power wire incorporates a resistor wire for points distributors. You don't want a resistor wire for the GM HEI. I have no way of knowing what engine harness is presently in your car, whether it has been replaced with a newer one meant for HEI, or is still the original one with the resistance section. The power connection has key on 12 volts. Use a multimeter and test each wire for one that has voltage with the key in the run position. That will be the one that plugs into the HEI.
