Guys, I want to swap a bench seat into my 72 Skylark that has buckets. Does anyone know if the bench will bolt right into the same holes as the buckets or do I need the something else from the bench setup? BTW, if anyone has a bench seat and wants GS buckets let me know. Thanks Mark
I wish you were doing this a few months ago before I bought bucket seats to swap out my split bench seat from my '72 ;-)
Seems everyone wants to switch from a Bench to the Strato's - I am wondering why you want to go the other way? I have purchased a set of buckets that I need to recover and install but I question if I am doing the right thing by pulling the bench... Is there any drawbacks to installing the buckets vs the bench,,,? Dan C.
I think it is just a matter of personal preference. I'm going from bench to buckets because I like the look better. But the bench seat (especially with the fold down armrest) is much more comfortable and actually lighter than two bucket seats in your car.
It is definitely a matter of personal preference. My main reason is that I like having a center armrest. I enjoy the cruising position when you can lean on the armrest, as it is now I dont have a center console, and even if I did, then there really is no armrest to speak of it's just a storage compartment. Therefore I am limited to really only one cruising position and that's with my arm out the window, and while that is a great position, I really miss the center armrest style of cruising that I have in my Trans Ams. Plus in Chicago we can have clean roads for cruising in the fall but it's may be too cold to have the windows down. That's when all you can do is just sit straight and hold the wheel and 10 and 2. An armrest would fix that problem. So the main reason I want a bench is for the armrest!
I have some pics that I can email links to for those who are interested in a trade. Please PM me, and if you got pics of your bench please email them to me. Thanks
Since noone answered your question (and everyone was willing to take the buckets...wow) The Bench will not bolt in directly to the bucket seat bracket. There is the front outer corner that you will need to cut the "T" bracket from the floor and under that you will find the floor has a hole that is threadedd so that the bench seat will bolt on. I did this very swap recently. ALso the center bucket seat brackets can be left alone for future use, but someone will need to weld back on the bracket. After I took mine off I just sprayed paint over it and wire tied the "T" bracket over the inside bracket so I wouldnt loose it.
Thanks RACEBUICKS! I appreciate the answer! I was wondering if anyone actually saw anything besides that I have buckets I don't want! Good info. Much appreciated. Mark
I don't know where in line I stand, but I've got two bench seats sitting in my garage. Both would need to be recovered at some point. One is green, the other white. Let me know if you're interested.
I love having the split bench in my car, perfect for cruising, sleeping and other things that will not be specified on this forum:Brow: Get your mind out of the gutter guys I meant eating fast food Unfortunately the bench in my car appears to be out of an early a-body as it has no head rests. Mark, have you any intentions on a manual/automatic valve body in the future? I really love my bench seats but I am curious if anyone has a bench with a ratchet shifter as well
Thought I'd bring this back to the top. I got the answer I need, but am still in the market for a bench WITH the center armrest. I've decided that I do need to have the center armrest, so if anyone's in the midwest area and has one, lets talk. Thanks Mark
