Hey guys, I have replaced my radiator, fuel pump and fuel filter and still when I try to put the pedal to the floor at about 55-70 MPH it bogs really low then engine rpm's run high like it wants to go faster then bog again and so on the car just won't go any faster. What the hell is going on that I am missing? Is something wrong in the fuel delivery somewhere that I'm not aware of? ANY suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks, Nick

How many miles do you have on it, and has the carb ever been rebuilt or replaced? If so how long ago?

    Stock Carb

The car has only 150k miles on the entire vehicle. It was garaged when I bought it from the original owner last year. The carb hasn't been completely rebuilt but has a new fuel plunger in the carb (can't remember the name of it at the moment). I've tried tweaking the carb every which way I can with same results of bogging etc. I don't think it's the tranny but it is stock too so I'm not sure what to think anymore. The car has plenty of power up to about 55mph. From stop I can floor it and burn the tires without the use of a break and it accelerates just fine then it's like it just doesn't want to go anymore.

    Thanks again, Nick

    Fuel

If the problem happens after a few miles of driving, the fuel pick up screen (some call it the sock) sucks dirt or rust in the tank and plugs the pick up tube. After the engine sits awhile and the pressure is released in the tank, the engine will perform as it should untill the screen plugs again. The only fix it to drop the tank and replace the screen.
This may be what is happening.

Mine had a very similar behaviour. I put a new carb, checked the fuel pump, changed the coil, the points, the spark plugs, the wires...same trouble.
Then I blew the fuel line with air from the pump to the tank, and it disappeared. I have driven 2000 miles since. I always planned to clean up the filter in the tank, but I started to forget about the issue until I saw your post ! :)

I found the ghost thanks to the Forum, but I can't retrieve the thread.

Send the carb to Biggs or John Osborne!

    Dropping the tank

Thursday I'm going to drop the tank, clean the sock, clean the tank as much as possible and flush the fuel lines. Hopefully this will fix the issue. I will keep you guys posted on how it does. Thanks so much for all the input.

    Fuel Problem Solved!

There was a fuel filter up almost on top of the gas tank that I never knew there was. I only saw the filter on the carb and thought that was the only one. I couldn't hardly blow through the fuel filter off the tank it was that bad :eek2: Anyhow thanks again for the input guys. Car is running great. Riv on!
