    I came accross a 72 Skylark GS350-4 today.
It is green and had a v-top, but no more. Dangerous here in Hawaii.:spank:
GOOD: The car is #'s matching w/pb, ps, a/c (needs service), buckets, console shifter, straight body (no dents or accidents), unmolested! The paint is in good driver condition.

    :blast:
BAD: leaky trans, some rust behind the rear window drivers side, 2-3 bubbles on the roof where the v-top was, I think that's it.
It's been sitting in the garage/carport for the last 10 years. Driven about once a month.
    74,000 original miles.
I offered $1000 and he accepted. My mechanic friend is going to see that the motor is good and the tranny shifts alright thursday.Would you all say this is a good deal and go for it?
Maybe it's an easy question to answer, but this is somehow too good to be true. WHAT DO YOU FOLKS THINK?

    Worth, Value???

Does anyone have a vague idea what this car is worth from my description?
I got jerked around by the seller. I thought we had a deal, then he went and told me he was going to wait a few days till another prospective buyer looked at it. I thought a deal was a deal, but now I saw it listed in the paper for $2500 obo.
He said he'll still sell it to me if no one picks it up.
I am bitter, but would still like to get it. I just wanted to know what the value might be estimated at with the desription I gave.
I thought this was my turn at finding a good deal. I had the money when I went back to check out the motor, and he backed out right when I was ready to pay what he agreed to:stmad:
    Well, better luck next time...:ball:
    Thanks for anyones help!

Scott your first post stated that you offered him $1000.00 and he accepted the offer;did you pay him or leave a deposit?? A later post said you were going to send a mechinac to check condition of motor ect. That would sound like you may or may not take the car to me if I was the seller.I do not know your conversation with the seller but I learned a long time ago that it is best to complete a transaction ASAP or make a deposit so seller knows you are really going to buy the car because I have experienced many people ask you to hold a car and never come thur with the money.Hope things work out for you to get the car,it sounded like a real good deal.

    deal !

if u had a verbal agreement of $1000 and had a handshake , by law these is a legal contract . if u have a lawyer , he could contact the seller and threaten a lawsuit .
i know personally of a similar situation where a seller agreed to sell his vehicle to a buyer . buyer & seller shook hands on the verbal agreement - no money changed hands . a few hours later the seller sold the vehicle to another buyer for more money .
first buyer contacted his lawyer who in turn called the seller & warned him that there was a handshake agreement between his client & the seller and threatened a lawsuit because in law there was a binding contract . the seller was pissed off but had to let the first buyer have the vehicle .

    Re: deal !

That might be true in some jurisdictions, but not in most if not all. The legal profession would call it a question of "The Statute of Frauds" which has been around since the days of England and is the source of much of US law.

Generally speaking, to be enforceable contracts to purchase real property must be in writing regardless of amount. For personal property most states have adopted the Uniform Commercial Code(UCC) which in the model act sets a threshold amount for vebal contract to be enforcable at $500.00. Above that they must be in writing. Some states may have modified this threshhold but the ones I have seen have left it in tact.

If that car is as good as it sounds you better get over there with some $$$ and find out how much it takes to get it out of his carport. NOW! If you give him a lot more than your first offer you will still be stealing it.
    $1,000 = JUNK
    $2,000 = REPAIRABLE JUNK

    It's Gone

As good as the deal sounded, the seller took the advice of a friend after we settled on a price and listed it in the local paper for $2500/obo.
I would've bought it for that had the seller been honest with me, but better yet, I would have passed it onto a true 72 fan on the mainland or here in Hawaii for a small profit.
Spilled milk? Nah, I am actually looking for a match to my 69.
    :beer
I would actually like either a 69 convertible or a 68 rag-top sitting next to my 69 project which by the way is gotting closer to d-day for the real work to begin. I am piling parts and before long will have an entire 69 GS455 in my dining room minus the chassis. The wife isn't enjoying the decor as much as I do, but it's temporary.
    IT'S ALL GOOD THOUGH. :beer
There's a 68 hardtop for sale here with all factory options for $4800/obo.
I wouldn't mind that one for now till I can get a rag-top.
It's a great daily driver. There's also a 67Skylark ragtop for sale for about $4000. Needs carpet and a top, and it's ready for daily driving.
    We'll see!
    :Do No:
    Aloha,
    Scott
