    TR 137 = tan black vinyl buckets
    63 =Burnished Copper body
    A = White top
    08D = Built 4th week of August
    A51 = Code for Bucket seats

    Must be a special order car since buckets were not a regular option for convertibles in 1972...

    Mike, this one is a coupe. When you say Tan/Black, I assume the black is the dash,rug,headliner,kick panels and pillars etc. The seats are very light color, almost like a butterscotch. Would that be a white vinyl or painted top? These are my cars, which are both black now. I may be repainting the coupe back to original someday and this is the first time I checked on the paint and trim codes.Very interesting :beer Chris

    Chris,

    I think another name for Tan/black as they have listed is "Covert" but I am not sure why it is listed as Tan/black? :Do No:

    As for the top, that is a good question about a painted or vinly top and I don't think you can tell that from the cowl tag, you would need a build sheet or sloan data to be sure.

    Sorry I got confused with the second decode (coupe/conv.) :Dou:

    Mike,

    Covert (Ditzler name) was also known as Sandalwood in Buick-speak. The Tan/Black was sold as just that, Tan/Black. It is listed in my 1972 Color & Trim book as Tan/Black with a Trim Style number of 467 or 367 (should match the number on the data plate). Covert (Sandalwood) will have their interior codes end in a "4".

    Those silly marketing guys....tried to pull one over on us! Hey! My degree is in marketing! No wonder I understand this crap!

    Sure you can. A painted two tone to has two numeric paint codes. A letter code is either a vinyl top or a convertible.
