i found an ad for a 72 sun coupe for sale near me . ity seems that the seller is older and is selling off all his cars . among them is a 72 sun coupe , it has the gs hood and says it is 350 powered . it didn't say what the options were , it was the orange with white top that you see in so many sun coupe pictures. How rare are these , and what are they worth . i am considering having a look but i need to know more about these . how do i determine if it is real , what options are especially desirable etc. if any one cares to chime in i would appreciate it .

If the 2nd letter in the vin is a G it is a GS.

did they make the sun coupe from a GS ? i searched the site and i found a thread that said that there were about 5 stage one sun coupes made . if that is the case then it is possible that this is a legit GS that was ordered with the sun coupe option . other than the vin what else should i be checking tho verify that the car is indeed a GS . The photos on the for sale ad make the car look really sharp. I saw a sun coupe web site where the owner showed an estimate of 10,400 . is this what they actually sell foror is this high. also if they did put the sun coupe option on a legit GS how much more rare than a skylark sun coupe would this be . Thanks

The VIN will tell you it's a GS. The suncoupe option was available on all 1972 'A' bodies.

When provided with the VIN and $25, the Sloan Museum will tell you all original factory options (including the Suncoupe option)

    Here is their contact information.
