You are an artist!! I will be looking back to this thread for a long time to come. I only wish I had the skills to do a project like this. That is going to be one of the coolest wagons on the road and no one who doesn't know what was offered would ever know it wasn't factory. I think even the experts might scratch their heads on this one. Looks too good not to make them wonder.....
Thanks...I may be an "artist", but I sure as heck ain't a mechanic. Today, I was all set to put my freshly painted oil pan back on. I had everything clean and perfect. The service manual says to put a few dabs of Permatex on the cork gasket, and install the pan. Sounds so easy. Well, if a little Permatex is good, a lot must be better, right? Wrong! ou: I put a bead of the evil black stuff on the block, and the put the gasket on, and then put a bead on that and then put the pan on. I was tightening my beautifully painted bolts on my beautifully painted oil pan, when I realized my error. The dang blasted gasket split apart as I tightened the bolts. What a freeking mess! :ball: I spent the rest of the day cleaning up this mess. I soaked the bolts in thinner and repainted them. I did manage to clean up my oil pan without messing it up too bad. I ordered a new gasket set from Pep Boys...hopefully it will show up in the morning like they said it would.:TU: David
If you should, perchance, want to have the best sound you can afford, all you need is this: http://www.audiocontrol.com/171360/products/LC8-Eight-Channel-Line-Output-Converter.html It is a very high quality high/low converter..just wire your factory speaker leads to this and voila! you have a very clean pre-amp to which you can connect your amps! You can hide it all...the factory radio works as always, but the sound will baffle everyone! Just a thought.
The LC8 looks great, but the site says it has been discontinued. Hopefully, audiocontrol still has them. Thanks for the tip! :TU: David
Look what I found!: http://cgi.ebay.com/audio-control-lc8-/360322903177?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e4eb2c89
It looks like the DQXS has replaced the LC8...it looks like a good unit, with lots of features... The six inputs on the DQXS allow it to interface with a multitude of source units, whether they have two, four, our six output channels. The DQXSs programming menu actually allows a user to select an input configuration that optimizes the systems performance. Additionally, the DQXS is equipped with high impedance inputs, which means it can accept high wattage signals from most factory installed source units and amplifiers.
Spray the gasket with Permatex Tack-a-gasket.....let it dry for 10-15 minutes.....stick it to the pan and bolt that to the block....it's red and works great. Keep up the good work :TU: Peace WildBill
I know your almost done but have you ever thought of putting a glass roof like a sporty had? I think some of those big wagons had them. I really like the project and as has been said many times you sir, are an artist!
Almost done!? I wish! It's still on track, but I am kind of bummed that it is taking me so long to finish this thing. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement! While I have no plans for the Sport Wagon "vista" glass, but I am going to put a correct style sunroof in it. David
Well, the sunroof was a no-go! A super guy from Indiana joined up to the Station Wagon Forum, where he had seen my project. He had a glass sunroof assembly from a Cadillac, and he wanted to give it to me. He packed it up, and shipped it to me, but it arrived shattered. A bummer, for sure, but his generosity is very much appreciated. I sent him a nice check to cover his trouble and expenses. These pics show the shipper was extra gentle with it! ou: David p
David, Just found this thread. Wow, I am impressed. I have been kicking around a wagon project myself (drag car). Your talent and craftsmanship is amazing. I know anything I build will not be up to the caliber this car is. I got to admire your attention to detail as well. I am going to be keeping an eye on this thread for future updates. Great work....Keep it up! :TU::beers2:
Well, gosh, Kent, thanks for the kind words! I am pretty sure anyone could do this...it just takes ambition, and asking for help and pointers when you get stumped. David :TU:
More, I must see more! What an awesome project:laugh: I think that those who take the time and have the skill to modify a car and make it look like it rolled off the showroom floor that way have much more talent than people who chop up original cars to make some hodgepodge creation with no rhyme or reason. I hope one day to have a wagon that sweet! These cars are a forgotten platform, much like suvs and minivans are today.
