Does anyone know the actual horsepower of a 1972 Buick Electra 225 Custom 4-door hardtop? I believe the motor, tranny, drive train, gear-ratios, etc. are all factory-stock and if anything was replaced or repaired it was done so according to original specs. There have been no modifications to the car, as far as I know, to alter the original power and performance of its original state. Thanks for any help anyone can get me. I've had this car for a few months, and I really like it. I have had a challenging time finding out a lot of information about it. The best website, besides this one, that I've come across so far for this subject is "1972 Electra.com."
Thanks for the info.! I like that '73 Electra 225 and that Riviera. I need to get my vinyl top replaced. If you don't mind my asking, what kind of MPG do you get (city, hwy)? Just wondering. Obviously, that wasn't my main focus when getting my car. I really like big cars.
I guessed 250 because the factory numbers for my '73 are about 222-230 I think, so I added a bit more for the earlier year. As far as gas mileage, I get 8-10 around town and 12-15 on the highway with 2.73 gears and 145,000 on the original engine.
I get around 8 city, 12 hwy. On "72Electra.com" I found an old August '71 article copy from Motor Trend where they compared the '72 Electra 225, '72 Olds 98, and '72 Mercury Marquis. They said, of the three, that the Electra was rated at the best MPG for (in their words) "reasons beyond logic." The Electra is the (albeit) slightly biggest car of the three. When new, it got around 14.
mileage When I brought the 18 thousand mile Electra Limited home from Texas that is pictured on 72Electra.com (Paolo's Grey one) a few years ago, I got a consistant 16.9 traveling 70-75 MPH - that was one nice ride home.
I am glad to see another 1972 Buick Electra owner finds 72Electra.com useful. It is indeed a narrowly tailored site. :beer Rather than create a new thread, I want to mention that Frontpage mangled a good portion of my site awhile back ou: and I'm deliberating whether to rebuild the whole thing from scratch, or try to recover most of my galleries. And I need to get this done before law school in Fall, it goes without saying. So hang tight and I will make another post when it's back to 100%, because I have a lot of new scans (1972 Showroom Album, other dealer items) to share.
The difference is due to dual exhausts, which were standard in the Rivs. Otherwise, its the same 455.
