With all due respect to anybody with a 72 Buick GS Stage 1, 32 grand seems nuts! And as a Lot of people have pointed out, What you get at BJ isn't really "fair market value"

Having been there I agree it is a different place. I do think it is noteworthy because of the relative increase in sales price over past BJ Buick sales. Perhaps 10K more than the past sales . The BJ price does tend to reveal trends in the overall, real-world market.

    Want to see some pics?

I was fortunate to be there, too.

The actual hammer pirce was $29,500..the bidder then has to pay 8% more for the privilege of buying at the auction.

I have the VIN # (for the registry guys, if they want to know it..)
    and some pics.

I am no expert, mind you, but even I could find a handful of things that were not correct on the car. It was nice, very nice, but not perfect at all.

I also thought it was a strong price..but in the end, if that is the 'high' of the market, it makes all the other cars float up in value, too.

Jackson has hit strongly in the muscle car vein..he sees it as the hot trend for the baby-boomers.

FYI..there was a 1 of 36 1970 ***Chevelle*** that went for $100K. Guys are buying bragging rights.

Let me know if you want the VIN or to see some pics.

What was the color combo and equipment ? If you can post a pic here I would like to see it. I presume it was an auto car.

    I can't say for sure...

    about the color.

It was like a silvery pale color..maybe silver mist.

It had auto, a/c, sport wheels, G60-15 tires, single chrome mirror, rear defroster, power disc brakes, AM radio, gauges

I think it had 35K on the ododmeter..but not sure if that was 134k?

Here is one of the car on the stage being sold..

Well I don't think its nuts. We have 150,000.00 plus hemi cudas, 100,000.00 chevelles, people buying other peopls hot rods for 200,000.00 so a car comes along, one of 728 stage 1 hardtops made, not totally correct but looks nice, seems to me thats a bargain!

Maybe if the cars had some value other than for parts, we could get some decent pieces made for them as they would be worth saving....

BJ add says #708 of 728 built, wonder where they pulled 708 from??

    Hooray Tim,
Thank You...we seem to be so shortsighted. I am glad to see our cars start to finally get up there. We need to realize how special these cars are.

    I'm with you..

Just like housing prices, if the best house in the neighborhood goes up in price, all the other houses will go up also.

BTW..the owner here was hoping for 30+..maybe next time at a BJ auction!

The '708th' car number comes from a guess from the VIN #.

The last 3 digits are 708 and somebody guessed that they kept a Stage 1 sequence going.

I thought the last 6 VIN digits just kept rolling along with each car, no matter what model, and that it had only a general tie to the time of year...but not anything like 'let's count the Stage 1's'

    Re: I'm with you..

    Stanley,
You are correct. The VIN did NOT keep track of the Stage 1's...it's the "sequential production number" and had no significance with the number of Stage 1's produced before or after. The car in front with VIN ending in "707" could have been a Skylark 4dr sedan with an inline 6 cylinder.

well, that is about athird of what it cost to do a frame off restoration, so i guess these cars need to gain more value so we can get the repro parts guru's to start investing in tooling for the hard to find parts. so we all need to stop trying to hold back and instead bring the first class muscle car to the top.

I totally agree. These cars should bring what the other makes are doing. We are only hurting ourselves. Why is it one of the most expensive cars new, now sell the cheapest. We only have ourselves to blame!

i gotta ask this question, who of the buick community is going to pay 100 grand for a QQ's resto or any other buick resto, better have a good job i mean at least paying 100 grand, and that's not factoring in the cost of living that's always going up

i like buick because its the underdog, and the from what i see, i think buick's got the best community, but if these prices get outa hand, i can see things turning for the worst:(

Well I don't know, whos buying the 150,000.00 hemi cudas and 100,000.00 chevelles (it s a chevy for petes sake!)?

Buicks won't likely ever hit that, but it would be ncie to see guys who put their heart and soul and 50,000.00 k into a resto not get slammed when they ask 30K for it....

Sounds like the subject 72 Stage1 car went "about right".

Even our beloved Buicks will eventually hit the high end of the market...
All you have to do is look back to the mid/late 50's cars and price some of the well done high-end BOP cars to see this.

So the cost of playing with our Buicks is going to increase substantially over time... That's a fact!

We might as well get use to it!
(I'm going to my grave with a smile on my face):Smarty:
