And late 71 as well that use the sidemount are very hard to find. Nobody repros them that I know of for our cars. The usual suppliers have cables but they are incorrect (ie OPG look to be anodized the red and black) or don't have them at all. Tried year one, NPD, TPP, Buick Farm, etc. Buick farm had one in stock which I purchased and while it will work and is the larger diameter of the big block cables, it is black as well.

American autowire has the molded ends (only) with a swaged on connector for the battery end but I'd prefer premade. Not worried about that plastic block, I can make my own no worries.

Seems all the aftermarket has gone to black for everything as it makes it easier to produce the range of cables as they can be used for both negative and positive in other applications as size fits.

I am looking for correct sidemount cable in authentic red molded plastic ends per original. Negative cable is no problem. If someone knew the length of the chevelle + ones that would be helpful as they look correct just need the length before I fork over 40.00 for something that MIGHT fit (they don't have lengths).

Tim- I bet if you called www.lectriclimited.com they could probably hook you up with a set of repros. Im sure they know all the lengths and can cross reference something for you

OK, will do. I'm going to put all the info on my website and maybe save people some greif (that is if they read it!!).

    Tim,
You may also want to inquire with M&H. I had heard one time they were planning to repro the correct red positive side mount cables.

Nothing past 71 (top mount). Will try to get around to calling today about cable lengths for other cars, first I want to measure my car and make sure I know exactly what length I am talking about before I call them...

Called Lectric Limited. They said if anyting crossed they would list it for my car. I asked if there was a way to find out how long chevelle or camaro cables were so we could check and he said "We don't release that information". Geez, must be matter of national security! :Dou:

Surely somebody out there has these style cables in the 27" and 42" lengths I need....this is downright stupid.

Back in the late '80's I started searching for correct side terminal cables for my 455HO Pontiacs. Did this, as the Delco service replacements were wrong (I bought a few).
By circumstance, one of the original side terminal A-body HO cables was actually shared with early Pontiac Grandvilles. The other has to be shortened. Give me a few days, & I'll post back in with the GM part numbers & lengths. This may be of some help, even though a Buick :Do No:

Any info appreciated at this point. I have a couple guys looking at their chevy stuff as well. Basically need the correct battery end and enough length for the positive cable....I can always shorten the cable and put a new end on the starter side. As long as its a common application, I can just order a repro and go from there.

All the GM cables now are black. Originals were red but I'd be ok with a red terminal at the battery end even just for safety.

    Thanks

    Tim R,
I am not sure, and would need to check, but I think the 71 and 72 negative side mount cables are different. I have a couple of the 71 neg cables and they are pretty short. The negative cables also have a weird looking end on them, where they mount to the engine.

Well that is pretty odd, wonder why they would be different? I know on my 71 the cable mounted to that one bolthole on the head but I thought that was due to a/c??? Good old GM, nothing is ever easy....

I can tell you for 100% that the original cable off a non a/c 72 GS 455 is 26.5" center to center as the one I have here still has the markings as per the assembly manual. The red one is still on the car so have to go pull that, never realized what a pain in the butt there cables would become!! If you can add to that Duane it would be good, I'm going to put all this info on my website...

In another thread we discussed the possibility that the NPD chevelle cable p/n's included the length and it seems to make sense so I might just order up a set and cross my fingers...

Did you get my money order yet??

    Tim R,
"maybe battery cables could be the subject for another one of your blow them all out of the water articles!"

Wait till you see this month's issue. I have a good article about production plant logistics, that should get everyone thinking, but the "Motion GSX" article should put a decent size "Cruiser" on the beach.
    Duane

PS. I will check into the 71-72 battery cables within the next few days. Too much going on right now.

Thats ok, I'm still enjoying the whole shock episode. Do you know how many e-mails I got from my website with people telling me my car should have the spiral shocks? Then it turns out that it shouldn't have, so my nice aftermarket shocks look correct after all!!!  :TU:
