fourfiftyfive My car is a mess........

I have a 8.5 "corporate" rear end from a '72 skylark, chevy center, bolt in buick axles.

I've seen guys running these things into the 9's with spools, strong axles, and TA covers.

My question is: where to find a good spool and good axles?

This rear will have to live behind a bad-ass pump gas street/strip build. 500-550 hp, 3000-3500 stall, and plenty of beatings. I do not plan to put slicks on it, just M/T drag radials... any suggestions? I don't care about street manners, etc. all I know is this thing has to live and I want to run 3.73's lol.

So far I found a few spools on jeg's, summit was just about worthless, all they had was 12 bolt stuff and bolt-in 9inch housings... I just want to know the general concensus on what's good to use and what's not with these axles.

Any advice is much appreciated! :TU:

Talk to these guys. They are local to me and will set you up with everything you need. I have a Moser spool and custom bolt in moser axles in the race car. It is ok on the street just dont plan on any sharp turns.

www.jdrace.com. Monzaz on the Board. He can build you whatever you want. I wish I would have known about him before I had my rear built locally. I used 30 spline Moser axles and matching Eaton Posi.

No need for a spool with that set-up IMO. Like Larry said, 30 spline Eaton posi with Moser axles will serve you well.

Eaton even has a 800 pound version for guys like you. A spool will save you about half the money BUT you will definetely need better after market axles. 30 spline is about it because of the press on bearing diameter but that should still be more than enough to do the job if not the stocker 28 spline ones.

Kind of think over what you want to do with the car mostly, then check your prices and go for it. Jim

    Well...

The car won't be taking any sharp corners, but I'm going to be driving it on the street A LOT. The reason for the spool is so that when I do build my next motor it'll last (hopefully)... the next motor will dish out plenty of abuse thanks to burton's twin turbo kit when he gets one out for 455s. I think it'll last with 30+ splines, a spool, and a TA girdle cover... but with "normal" stuff IDK... This is no G-machine... cruising down back roads on a sunday will happen... but this is a straight line car. One of the local guys runs a spool in his street car and it works just fine, so I thought, what the heck, I should run one too... I just want to know which parts to get...

So... after my previous confusing explanation can you guys still help me out?
