I've never seen one of these on a GS before. Are they specific to the 72 cars only? Has anyone ever seen one or does the assembly manual show it? Thanks!

I sure don't see it in my '71 assembly manual.

    72

It is for a '72 455 engine. You could install it on other years, but it is only correct for '72 as far as I know. Maybe Duane could help us out here? MikeS?

My all original Stage 1 has this with the super heat compressor . Maybe it just that compressor . Most people threw these away back in the day when they change belts or serviced the compressor

    John,

Can you post a picture showing it in place? I'm curious now! Thanks!

    Yep....got one.

Actually, I have a set of those that I am putting on ebay next week.

I am digging thru the ole garage archives and selling off stuff that I am not gonna use.

Thanks for the pics! I don't remember ever seeing one, and may even have the one that came on my 72 car. If so, I didn't know what it was - hopefully I kept it!. I wonder why they started using them in 72?

John - Is the one in the pic you posted the one for sale on ebay? It looks great and I'm watching the auction closely!

Thanks again for all the info! :TU:

John's picture is exactly the way mine came. Now I can not 100% verify that's the way it came from the factory! The 72 chassis restoration I think does show it as being correct.

Mike , my car is 78k mile with all original parts . The hoses are original as are all the belts . I am positive this is factory correct with the super heat compressor ( big clutch) . 70 looks different .

    Yes,

The one for sale is the one in that photograph. I had it on my '70 till I realized that it didn't come on '70's. It is a very nice piece, and very straight. I would lightly scuff it and give it another top coat of low-gloss engine black though.

    Thanks John,

I bet yours will look awsome!!!

Just to briefly change the subject. Has anyone seen the advertisement for the Braselton Bash this year? They are having a portion of the show call the "Select 100" I have already sent my entry fee in for it. Chip Foose will be present this year, and he will be judging the "Select 100". My '70 will be in that group.
