no drag tracks here in Spain (Europe). the action is in the streets. i hate to be beated by the japs and euroboxes and the Detroit Iron of my friends in our club (a 300 member American Cars club) but with the stock 350 2 barrel and 2.56 gears in my '72 'Lark i can't expect more. time for a perfo rebuild. i love to drive my car. fast aceleration, relaxated cruises, long trips, heavy bumper to bumper trafic, high speed runs... i'm thinking in some 350 to 450 HP. i need a powerfull but streetable and reliable engine. aside of the engine my plans are: TH200-4R with 2000 to 3000 converter, Posi with 3.73 to 4.10 gears and new axles, suspension steering and brakes improvements... is my first engine work and i need some help. i need your opinions and suggestions. i'm thinking in: TA or Poston intake manifold 750 or 800 CFM carb modified heads 10 or 10.2 to 1 compression pistons ARP rod bolts headers big cam MSD distributor and 6AL box adjustable oil pressure regulator and oil pump booster plate double roller timing chain plus a rebuild kit: piston rings rod, main and cam bearings oil pump repair kit gasket set freeze plugs i think i also need a valley pan gasket and rear main seals. here my questions: i cannot found a rebuild kit for the 350 Buick. the best parts and supliers? plasma moly or chrome moly rings? roller rockers or adjustable pushrods? vacuum or mechanical advance distributor? Rhoads lifters? 10.2 cast or 10 hypereutectic pistons? (i can run on 98 octane gasoline) 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" headers? 2.5" or 3" exhaust system? oversize oil pickup tube? deep sump oil pan? perfo mechanical or electric fuel pump? replacement or electric water pump? 750, 770 or 800 CFM carb? vacuum or mechanical secondaries? manual or electric choke? lifter valley bypass kit? TA 310 or 413 or Poston 118 or 112 cam? too much cam? with a big hot cam, can the power brakes work with a vacuum reservoir or an electric vacuum pump? thanks in advance
Wow, Barcelona! I was there back in the mid-80's, one sunny afternoon putting away some beers in a Scottish pub. Looked out the windows, and there was a Buick Regal going down the street. You might say "So?", but you have to understand, the streets were/are so narrow, and the intersections so small, that everybody piled out of the bar just to watch this guy go down the street with about 4 inches of clearance on either side. Simply awe-inspiring...that wasn't you, was it? :Brow: :beer Anyway, 350 flywheel hp isn't that hard to do, Buick made 315 stock in '70. TA is a good source for parts. I don't think you need rear end gears that deep, especially if you like highway driving. 3:42 seems to be a favorite ratio. Power is in the heads, you can port them yourself and get a lot in return. Recurve your ignition, you'll gain a LOT there. Search this board on the various topics you've asked about, there is a TON of info already available. And WELCOME!!! :beer :TU:
talk to jim burek over at http://www.paeenterprises.com/paeframe.html ... he built up a 350 with over 500hp. course, there was a lot of head work involved in that.
