Thanks for posting Dano. I’m pretty sure this car was talked about here on the board in the past with the 700 4R transmission an MSD Dist. Great color combination it would be great. If it were 1971 right now I’d go buy one.

That is almost my exact car only in convertible form (and 455 vs 350)... '71, Cortez Gold, white vinyl top, pearl white interior (mine has buckets and a center console, though), power windows, A/C, N-25, etc.

Pretty rare factory option. I believe there was also a dealer installed kit that used those same receivers on the front seat to hold the belts.

I didn't realize '71 Zone Cars had that option and that they didn't have the rear defroster option.

Very cool. So where is the shoulder seat belt?

Idk exactly but curious as well. I know someone who has a car w/ it. I'll see if he'll send or post pics.

I've been to a lot of car shows and have never seen this on any GM make. Now just because I've never seen one does not mean they never had one.

    What am I missing?

From the picture above, I guess that the belt goes far enough to go over the shoulder of the driver? That’s just weird and I don’t see how with that much space from the back seat and over the top of the front seat, that it helps secure the person any better.??

Thx. I figured it attached somewhere up higher.
It's a super long belt and I could imagine not super comfortable.
I went back & looked @ the '70-72 order forms and don't see it but I'm pretty sure (or at least always thought) it was a factory & not a dealer installed option.

The real question is how does it connect? The other end for that buckle is on the same side.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

It’s on the order forms as option J3 but not listed as a convertible-only option so it’s a bit confusing.

They bolt to the convertible top frame on one end and have a non retractable short male connector on the other end bolted to the floor. I had a 71 GTO with them and ended up taking them out. They were kind of awkward to use and always seemed to be in the way. Definitely a rare option.

I saw that but seems like that would refer to the custom (color coordinated) belts on a hardtop & not adding shoulder belts to a convertible. Assuming you're correct (I'm sure you are), basically the same option meant two very different things depending upon whether it was applied to a hardrop or convertible.

You could also get those seat belt holders over the counter from the dealer to use for your standard belts. I have a set that I use for my GS to hold the back belts in place, it just makes them more organized. The holders bolt to the seat frame. These were available for all GM brands.
