Hello, I have seen the list with engine specifications by TA-Performance.

    So I see that the 71 350 4bbl. have 260 HP and the 72 350 2bbl. have 190 HP MAX.
( I dont know if it where all Buick engines) but we talking about Buick only.
The compr. ratio is the same 8,5:1.

Why is there such a big difference, is it the camshaft or what else????:Do No:

    I have a 77 350 and I want also 260HP from a stock engine.today:)

    Tanks again.

If you still use Dutch Guilders to pay, you should hang on to Gross HP.....:TU:

For 1972 they changed the way to measure HP, called the SAE method:

There is even a difference between SAE HP and the DIN HP ratings used in Europe:

    1 HP (DIN) = 0,9861 HP (SAE)

Not a major issue to make over 300 hp using a TA 212 cam and headers on a otherwise stock 350 even with a 77 350....

Worry less about the horsepower number and more about ET/trap speed :) I doubt my car would dyno 250 at the wheels, but I'm happy with the ETs considering how little is done to it.

I'm with you Artie. Too much talking about HP numbers and not enough worrying about how the cars are actually running! You hit it on the head with that looser converter to get your machine off the line. Most people go too conservative especially with the 350 yet they want to slam in a big cam.

A looser converter will cause differences in wheel hp on a chassis dyno that make it look worse but the car will actually be faster. A stick car or lockup converter trans are the only truely accurate cars on a chassis dyno unless it is programmed to compensate for the slippage and torque multiplication. They are still good for comparing your own readings when you change things even with a loose converter.

You can't win the HP wars because every doofus with a Honda or V8 powered whatever will make more than you. Usually 500 hp minimum according to them. I don't bother talking anymore about how much power my car makes just how fast it is.

remember, also, the the example of the 454 ci (corvette only) rated at 390 hp (ls5 in the chevelle was 360 hp but was the identical engine) was for 1970. in 1971 compression ratios dropped and thus hp, and in 1972, as stated, it was net hp.
my dad owned a new 76 caprice with the 454 ci engine and it was, i think, 285 hp.

Agreed completely....im looking to just make my 72 350 4b cali emissions fast enough to enjoy myself. Prob wont make as much hp or even et's as my little 1.8t would make once i come back to it finishing it [used the funds to build my dd to buy a skylark.] but unless your tracking it all the time make it a fun street car.
