Certainly do not disagree. Just trying to present the car to the Board for sizing up and ID. I need to trim cars and not add cars.

    My guess...

If the stock GS aircleaner does NOT let the hood shut with the TA intake, then the guy who installed the intake originally knew that, so he milled down the base the carb bolts to, very easy to do (with the right equipment).

So if someone out there wants to buy this car, figure it as a 71 GS (possibly an original 455 car), with no matching numbers, plus Stage 1 emblems for 18,000!:eek2: :3gears:

I think the guy who has the car is well intended . It was represented as a stage one to him and I think he honestly thought the words "stage one" on the intake were dispositive. No one who knew Buicks and was trying to deceive would say that to a person who does.

It is a nice looking GS 455 and worthy of consideration- but not at that price given some issues. I thought i would pass it along . I hope we may uncover the engine code. It could be a modifiied stage 1. The jury is still out.

I would still be concerned this is not a 350 car, the only aluminum intake that has Stage 1 on it is the T/A intake for the 350, and the T/A catalog says "it clears hood with all stock air cleaners"

455 is cast in the back on the block behind the intake. I looked with a mirror.

I believe you are mistaken . The early version of the 455 Sp1 was called the stage 1 and had that cast in the intake right in front of the carb. Later that was changed and deleted. I believe that is what you might br thinking about. It does not appear now but once did. Yes it appeared on 350 intakes too.

I have an 1995 T/A catalog but cant make out what is cast in front of the carb, but i dont think there is enough carb flange thickness on the SP1 to mill off to get the stock air cleaner to fit under the hood.

    Well,,

If TA had a mold change, the height could also have been changed. If you really want to know, call TA....:Do No:

But it has nothing to do with I.D.'ng a 71 factory stage 1.:(
