I purchased some roof rail weatherstripping and it isn't close to being right. The ends closest to the door has two retaining plastic pins that don't match at all and it's very large along the roof rail. Were can I get the closest to original? Thanks

What brand did you buy? You sure you don't have them mixed up side-to-side?

Someone is making a latex style now I believe. The older rubber types are too hard.

I bought mine from CARS, Inc. I don't know what brand they use. I even compared it to my 69 and it a lot larger. What brand is the best?

Hard to tell...there are a couple popular brands out there (they've both been around for YEARS)....Metro Super Soft and the other brand is SoffSeal. You'll read good and bad about both but they're on thousands of these cars and they do work and fit.

A latex covered version is made and sold by The Parts Place and they cost a bit more than the Metro and SoffSeal brands and they claim to be real soft/less dense like the originals.

None of these repro versions come remotely close to the real thing in terms of construction....the originals had wire and metal plates embedded inside the foam in strategic locations and are definitely less dense than the repro stuff (although maybe The Parts Place's are also as soft...don't know...they'll tell you they are but they're also the people trying to sell them to you).

NOS originals, if you find them, are extremely expensive unless the seller has no clue what he/she has.

Someone on this board bought the Parts Place's version but I can't remember what they're opinion was....seems like one guy said they sucked and another guy (I thought it was Dave "copperheadGS1") said they were fine but I don't want to put words in Dave's mouth...maybe he'll speak up again.

I mentioned it earlier...have you checked to see if you have the strips on the correct sides????? Sure, yours may be slightly "larger" being repros but that doesn't tell me anything...do you mean longer?? do you mean thicker across any given section of the strip? Please clarify what you mean.

So at the bottom of the piller there's two plastic push pins that don't match the original at all. Not even close. Second when I get the weatherstripping in place it hangs low, it's very thick and won't set in the two black retainer.

Sorry...can't tell what you mean exactly. Have a camera?

and answer my question above...are you sure you have these on the correct sides?

Also....make sure you have the w/strip pushed ALL THE WAY UP AND PROPERLY SEATED in the stainless steel roofrail weatherstrip channel.

It's easy to put it in there but not have it seated into the channel all the way.

What are you referring to when you say "black retainers" in your earlier posting? Do you mean the small black-plastic-coated metal clips that are riveted to the stainless w/strip channel?? These don't fully cover the w/strip anyway..they just sort of support one side of the w/strip. There's one riveted to the a-pillar channel and one on the longer roofrail channel back by the quarter glass.

I think he might be talking about the black plastic push pins.

I purchased the latex style door weather stripping and it fit better than the other brands and softer. I use metro for all the other because it has been the best fit and quality for a while.

None of the aftermarket weather strip has the metal retainers that it should have like the factory original.

Patton, you were right, I didn't have the weatherstripping seated all the way. I also found that my painter had covered the original holes for the two black plastic retaining pins. Thank for your help. I'm sure ill need more.
