Question.... did my 71 GS 350 4speed have those originally? where they on all models? what are they for? thanks.
They run from the frame to the rad support. I believe they were on all Skylarks, but could be straight or have the "bow" depending on whether the car had ac or not...maybe someone with more knowledge comment on if the 4 spd's got them....
I have assembly manulas from 70, and early and late 71 and the part numbers never changed. Maybe the car had a fron end crash years ago and they were replaced at that time. Alot can happen in 40 years. Also by chance they could have been used on a very late car. Do you know the build date?
I believe they were straight in 70 Maybe early 71's This was because the AC dryer was long and skinny and did not interfere. Late 71 and 72 went with a shorter wider dryer, necessatating the bends in the x braces. I believe all GS's and all Convertibles had them.
They were not using the bent style in 71 to at least April. I am still not convinced they used them after that in 71. I have seen nothing but the skinny AC dryer on any 71 car orignal or in the junkyard.
Not sure of the build date without looking, but the car was originally titled in March 71. It is a convertible.
