is it a floor shift car or colum shift car I think I have one of each. Isay this because it is very involved process to rapair and parts may be hard to find.

I will say the first thing to do is just pull the wheel and check the screws- there are 3 I think for the tilt part. They get loose. It may be just that easy... let us know.

    Hold on!

Has the car ever been in a front-end collision???

My 69 has an "impact absorbing" steering column, but I'm not sure about the later years. My Riv looked like it had been in a 5 or 10 mph parking lot scuffle when I got it, but the steering knuckle in the column did its job and snapped to absorb the impact on the steering wheel.

There is no way to repair it as far as I know. You'd have to locate the hardware inside the column and I just don't know if it is available.

There are plenty of boattails being parted out on this board and in the ROA. A swap will probably be your cheapest, easiest and smartest bet.

Unless it is just the 3 loose screws inside...

    I can't answer your question . . .

Since my '71 Centurion coupe lacks tilt wheel, I have no input for you.

But I'm really responding to your post because you've got a '59 LeSabre. Is it a four-door flattop? My '59 Buick is an Electra flattop.

Please send me an e-mail at brianl@americanconstco.com. I would enjoy hearing about your '59!

Thanks for all the insight, it will be awhile before I get to try it out, but it looks like there's a good chance the fix is relatively minor...
