OK, another round of pictures for those interested in helping Bob figure out the past of this particular car: Option breakdown for this GSX Canada microfiche- this is the best copy he has. It looks like mostly Flint cars, but not too many GS's. The botton is pretty much impossible to read. Guess you needed to be in Canada to get one of these, eh? Dataplate- 43 43 Limemist, low body number, built 2nd week of June. Stage 2 Piston- I haven't checked my part number book yet, don't know if these were standard bore or if they made them in .030 over? 738 Block- '70-'71 block, if I'm not mistaken. I know my 01D '71 has a 738 block and I believe the casting number changed for '72. If something is going to ring a bell, I would think this home made deep pan and the following picks of a pick-up tube extension and pan internal baffle might. Extreme duty head gaskets- P/N shown Someone spent some time doing some internal balancing! Driver's side header. Passenger side header. Crank P/N and codes. We were discussing last night that this car was most likely out of a French Canadian Province. As such, there may not be anyone of this board from that area due to language barriers. If anyone lives in the area and knows some Buick folks, perhaps some of these pics could be shown to help track down the racing heritage of this car. Also, based on the dealer sticker in the first thread post, what tracks are/were around this area? Might be a good place for Bob to start.
This homegrown Connecticut Boy could not help you with your needed info in the slightest!! But man, I really dig the pics!! Thanks for posting. Crazy oil pan and pick-up set-up!
The 72' 455 that I bought from a guy in Pittsburg in my old car had that same modification to the pan and pickup tube. I love hearing how people bought these cars for towing boats back then. Great car!
That's what Limemist GSX's were actually built for. I think it was a major sale point taught at salesman school in '71.
So, now that we've put up what we know about Bob's car, anybody up near Poulin Buick know what local tracks were around "in the day" or anyone that was into the street racing scene in the '70's? We're thinking whoever did this work and owned this car was most likely French speaking and probably off the Buick grid or at least not on this board. There must someone on this board up in that general area that knows some old time racers from 30-40 years ago. If so, start asking some questions, please. Thanks!
Hello Ken , I tought it was your GSX in those pics at first . I live in this "area" about 45 minutes from there . I'm gonna pass the info on our board . hope I could help !
You're welcome guys ! I've been informed by someone on our board that the mecanic of the car was a Mr name Ppin . Actually retired , ther's a possibiliy that he let you his phone number or something . Is your French ok ? I'll keep you informed if I get something else
Donald- My french is worse than my computer skills , but thats great someone remembers the car . Keep me posted , I'll get around the language barrier somehow. Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Bob
That's great, Donald! If you can get a number or email address, I know someone that speaks fluent French, although not necessarily fluent "Buick".
If I have the correct town where Bob's car was originally, that area is very much French speaking. I have been to a few towns in this general area, and my rudimentary French was no match for theirs. Edit: I have picked up in at Saint Clotilde-de-Beauce, which is not far from Saint Honore-de-shenley. As I recall, "beauce" frequently appears with French town names, but I don't know why. http://classic.mapquest.com/maps?ci...e=45.960602&longitude=-70.826271&geocode=CITY
Hi , Beauce is a region of Quebec (province) , For exemple I'm from Ste-Marie de Beauce . Not that far from Quebec City , St-Honore is kinda close from Maine border. There is another GSX (70 QQ) that was in Beauce at least for a few years ... the actual owner is a V8Buick member :TU: His came from Lvis,Qc at the very same place mine was sold new .
Donald, thanks for the explanation. :TU: Mon francais is just good enough to get me into trouble.
It will be interesting what kind of further information Bob's GSX has on it. As you guys know, there is extensive work that was done to this car and there were people that definitely knew what they were doing-they weren't amateurs by any means!! Bob's GSX is a very interesting piece of Buick history. Definitely keep this thread going!!!:TU:
