Here are some pictures of the final approved grille. You will see that this is injection molded and is very durable. You can actually drop it and not break it due to the plastic that was mold injected. You will notice in the pictures that it is all silver and there are no studs. This will not be how our grille is sold. They are making the mask as we speak to paint in the black and the studs will be added there after. The grille took a little bet longer than we expected, but it was well worth the wait. These grilles will go for $579 painted correctly with the studs. :beer We are expecting our shipment in about 1-2 weeks.
Nice! That grille looks awesome.A person could actually begin to think about restoring a 71 GS now..... :beer
Our hats are off to the PP inc for bringing such a needed part to the market at an honest price complete. A finished GSCA 70 grille which is not as complicated will be nearly 800 when all is said and done with studs, painting, and shipping to a painter. It would help your sales if you could send a specimen to Jim Weise for evaluation of quality so he could post his evaluation here.
Excellent work! tis a thing of beauty....now when are you going to move on to correct injection moulded 1970 GS fan shrouds? :Brow: I know, I know, us Buick guys are never happy! Jason
wrong information Mr Lore, like I wrote in the other bench http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?p=572409#post572409 you miss calculated the total price for the GSCA 1970 Grill : here's the correct calculation : $500 (first batch of grills, shipment included) $50 (paint job) $39 (studs, shipment not included for the studs, i think) That should be less than $600.... 'don't see where your $800 comes from! Like I said : Don't believe everything that is said, if you're serious about buying a grill just contact the people selling them or manufacturing them, and get the correct facts, you will save time." Olivier
Mr Oliver I believe you say you are from France so I do not hold it against you that you are mistaken. If you had ever attempted such a paint job on one of these grilles you would know it is complicated and time comsuming to do it correctly. The best concours grille restorer here I know, Dave Tumas, charges $225. You would have to ship it back and forth to Dave and incur the charges there too. If it was only $50.00 to paint the grilles I think you know you should and/or would have done it. Although you are to be commended for undertaking this project, the fact remains that it is incomplete and all members are entitled to know this. It is a fact that if a little more time had passed the Parts Place or Buick Frank would have brought it to the market complete for between $500- $600. Now these are the true facts which we try to apply liberally around here notwithstading they may ruffle your French feathers.
I don't want to get into an argument, which is usually a lost of time. All I know is that you can have the 1970 Grills painted through the GSCA by Mr D.Kleiner for $50 before it arrives at your house. The first "repro grill" discussion was in april 2002..... I suppose that's plently a long time ago for people to start a project. It was be nice these other vendors try to reproduce 1967 grills as there's quite some demand, even in Europe were those models were exported. I don't understand the meaning of your last sentence, but I think it has nothing to do with grills nor Buicks. Olivier
We are just on a journey to get to the truth here. Can you give me the name of a person who has purchased one of your grilles complete for $600.00? I am not saying such a person does not exist, but so far I have not found one. There are many GSCA members on this Board too.
Jim and Oliver, You discussion need to be carried out somewhere else. This thread was started by The Parts Place and should discuss thier product only. I don't mean to sound like a moderator but we are all friends here. As far as I can see the guys at the parrts place should be commended for taking on the 71 GS grille project and selling a complete grille. I would be glad to discuss painting grilles elsewhere. Dave
Dave, This discussion will probably be a moot point at some time here, since I have now inspected TPP's reproduction 71 GS grill, and it is, in a word.. awesome! Joe asked me if there was a market for the 70's, as they are willing to do it, and sell it to the general public, and after seeing what they can do with this '71... my answer was.. HELL YESSSSS!! I will do a complete review of this new offering shortly here, was going to do it tonight, but spent all my computer time with a shop customer on his engine build, and have customers coming in from out of town the rest of the week here... Trace Armstrong to get his '72 STG convert to go on the power tour, as well as go over our latest project together, which is his '70 triple black STG convert.. winter project for this year I hope.. and then I have another customer flying in on Friday from So CAL to dyno his motor.. so I am not sure when I am going to get back to the computer.. Till then.. here is a tease pic... compared to this $2200 NOS one... wow.. Get some paint and studs on it, (which they will have, this is a pre-production sample) and it's a killer deal for $579.. very accurate reproduction.. and now I can quit asking guys who want to know what a '71 is worth, and how much would it cost to restore it.. "Hows the grill".. That's no longer an issue..
