I purchased a repo 71 GS grill and in need of studs please!! I was told some one on the board sold these? Thanks
At one tme a Board member remade these but as I recall all were sold and none have been remade. See if Daves69 has any.
I may have an extra set. A problem is that I don't know exactly where they are. So, if you are not in a hurry, I will run across them. If someone else has a set - grab them. Matt
I have the center studs only. Do not use Skylark grille studs the part that screws into the grille is too big and will crack the grille. You can modify the Skylark studs by grinding them and rethreading to 5/16-18. "Skylark Custom" grilles used the same studs as a GS grille. Just make sure they are 5/16 before you install them.
Are the center studs longer than the skylark grill center stud? ---------- Post added at 06:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:57 PM ---------- The five studs that came with the grill ( I'm not sure why 5 and not 6 that is needed) are huge and makes no sense. Why does it come with 5 long studs?
Dave, I have two of those grills, what color did you spray it? My original I painted black in 1986, the thing I did when I was 16. I have another that looks like it had a black back ground and then gray. ---------- Post added at 04:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:49 PM ---------- Dave, I found 4 of the long studs I had stored away but not the correct center studs, can I buy the center studs from you? ---------- Post added at 05:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:51 PM ---------- Dave, just read an old tread were you compared the studs, good right up!
A 1971 Skylark Custom Grille is painted 3 different colors. First I paint the entire grille with a custom mix of PPG dp90 and dp48 primer to replicate the original grey plastic. Next the grille was painted on the front with PPG silver base coat mixed as an interior paint (Does not need a topcoat) Now spend about 5 hours masking the grille for black. All of the recessed areas are black along with the bottoms of all the fins. Sent you a PM on the studs
That's it!! WOW that looks great. I wish I never painted mine black back in the day. 1988 to be exact. Do you sell these after you restore them?
Bob, Grille studs went out on Friday eve. I used to have spare time to do grille restorations. The Skylark grilles were a pain to do and difficult to sell, due to limited market. Here is one grille story There was someone looking for a Custom grille. I located a grille and promised it to him and I never heard from him. The grille was listed here for sale and it sold. The original person then contacted me a couple months later and said he was ready to buy. I told him "Too late grille was sold". Next I ended up sourcing another Custom grille and restored it for him. Just became too big of a pain and required too much time.
