    Hi,
I'm new to the board. I just picked up a 71 Skylark that I am making into a GSX Replica. I'm purchasing a GS Glass Hood, but I see that the Scoop inserts need to be cut out. Does anyone have any tips or instructions on how to do this without messing up the new hood? How about a Template or Hole pattern, do those exist anywhere?

I'm also looking for info on exterior details for making the GSX as correct as possible, such as paint codes for the strip kit, Semigloss or matte, emblem locations etc.

    Thank you in advance,
    Bob

I have a GS style cowl hood on the Riv. The builder cut the hols out for me. I also have a steel hood that I can perhaps make a templet for you. You may even be able to use the seal plates for the templet

The main thing I'm unsure of is how the Scoop Inserts are mechanically fastened to the Hood? Are they screwed into the Hood itself or perhaps sandwiched between the Scoop Inserts and Sealing Plate underneath?

    Thanks,
    Bob

There is 3 pieces on a factory install. the grill, a base and the seal plate. the steel hood has tabs for the base to mount to. The grill mounts to it with 4 studs and the seal plate is screwed to the bottom. On my glass hood the fiberglass is to thick and the studs on the grill are not long enough. I just used 4 dots of clear silicone under the grill next to each stud and did the same for the seal plates. You will need to cut the stud holes for the grill sort of slotted to get the grill into the correct position.

I can sort of visualize what you're describing. Do you have any pictures from when you did it or post installation, that would certainly help more?

Also, my other concern is when I go to cut the holes in the fiberglass hood, it looks like they come intact and need to be cutout? Is there anything that indicates where they should be cut? I'm trying to do as much as the mechanical work before sending it off to the Paint shop to save some $$$

Thanks so much for your advise, and quick response, I really appreciate it!
    Bob

The last one is the steel hood. The inserts will go into that hole then the grills and seal plate mount to it.
