I asked this before, but didn't get any replies- so I'll try again. My 71 GS has black door panels with an 8 inch (or so) woodgrain piece running from front to back in the middle of the door panel. I'm trying to find out if these are normal/common/correct or if they may be out of another car (custom maybe?) there are GS emblems on them, and they are power- please, somebody help!! o No: o No:
72s have the wide woodgrain in the middle with a stainless steel strip at the bottom and top edge---but no GS emblems in them (at least not on hardtops as far as I know) A pic would help.
i have 72 gs with the deluxe interior with the door panels as patton describes. however, my door panels do have the little "GS" emblem on them and a dab of old brown glue afixes the mounting pin to the panel. from the overall appearance of the panel, i am sure that it is original. car was built 1st week of october 1971. my guess is that assembly line installer may have inadvertently installed the panels for a ragtop or was just messing around & installed the "gs" emblem deliberately.
To my surprise one model of 71 Skylark did have wood grain door panels. Heres a picture from my 71 dealer brochure. Seems to be only with cloth seats. Harvey
i was gonna post a pic.... but the post before showed them..mine are black and power, but there is that woodgrain- anyone want them (fronts and rears) in exchange for a 71 set?
Just get a new set from Legendary. Well worth the money. You will need to have an upholstry shop change over the metal frames and also order correct 71 GS door emblems from a resto supplier. inner window rubber seals need to be swapped as well. Check out their catalog as it has pictures of correct 71 style with no woodgrain.
The ones you want look like 72 Seat grain Moulet grain with long vertical seams every 101/2 or so, and have the larger flat GS emblem . The 72 GS and custom skylark had the wood grain inserts as well as the cloth deluxe interior shown on the 71 dealer booklet . I have seen it both ways also with the GS emblem small like a 70 but they I believe came on converts . All this is just my observations and the fact that I have owned at least 40 GS's and Larks . That said I am still learning what is and what isn't correct or original . It's this board and guys like Duane that are helping us take our cars to a higher level. I agree if your not just doing a driver then go with new Legendary panels . I have a very nice set of originals but do not really want to sell these . I could however get you a pic .
I'd like to see a pic if you have... My door panels are perfect, so I'll keep them for now.. maybe someone will need an original set of 72's? I talked to the original owner today, and he said they have never been changed...who knows? o No: This car is getting interesting...
