I have a 71 GS convertible that was manufactured with a bench seat. Somewhere along the line, somebody installed buckets, a console and shifter (Chevelle) by simply bolting them through the floor. I now have the correct shifter and a mounting bracket for the back end of the console. I'm not sure how the mounting bracket should be installed. Should this be welded or bolted to the floor? I'm hoping the new shifter mounts in the same holes as the Chevelle shifter. I can see where the console mounts to the shifter, but there's one more mounting hole about half way up the front of the console. What does this mount to? I guess I could mount it through the same hole in the floor that's there now, but I'd like it to be correct. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris
Hey Chris,George has a great site which may answer a lot of your questions. The first link will bring you to what you are looking for.The other is the home page.Good luck.Tom. http://buickperformance.com/buckconsole.htm http://buickperformance.com/page1.htm
Thanks for the compliment. The front mounting hole/mount is not needed for your console set-up. Use the rear mount which is available as repro from The Parts Place and the shifter mount and you will be set.
Sounds like you keep moving from one project to the next with this car! Did you already get the patch panels on the rad support and innner fender? If so how do they look? Post a picture. I imagine you are going to need the brackets that are in the post on George's site. Maybe you ought to sign up for that site (me too)? There is a lot of good info there. I used some posts the other day for a few things I have going.
Tom, thanks for the link to the buickperformance site. I agree with you, it's an excellent site. The pictures and directions answered all my questions. George, thanks for all your help. You've provided me with a lot of help on several projects I've been doing over the last few months. My car is really starting to look great. Tim, the core support patch hasn't been done yet. Should be finished next week though. Roadway picked up my engine in NC. That should be here next week too.
