71 GS 350, now GSX Stage 1 replica

I'll be moving to a place with less car storage and also not as dry as opposed to the dry climate controlled that I have now. So downsizing my collection some. Figured I'd start with higher value first.

1971 GS 350, originally code 62 bittersweet mist, now custom lime mist with pearl. A LOT of money went into painting this car! Painted by STIFF RICHARDZ HOT RODZ in Elkridge, MD 10 years ago. Car has never been driven in rain since painted and car has only 1,600 miles on it since EVERYTHING was rebuilt or replaced. An odometer with zero miles on it was installed after restoration so it only shows 1,600 miles. The person I bought it from drove it to shows such as Crusin Ocean City, etc and put most of the miles on it. I have never registered it and have only put maybe 100 miles on it just to exercise it.

The motor is a rebuilt 67 430 with big port heads with Stage 1 conversion by BURTONSVILLE MACHINE in Laurel, MD, bronze guides, 3 angle, etc. Mild Crane cam (similar to Stage 1), stock 71 intake and a super 800 Q-jet by me. Externally it looks like a 71 Stage 1 motor. Stock exhaust manifolds with Flowmaster exhaust with balance tube (not my first choice but was on the car and new).

Transmission is a very sharp shifting T350 by Steve Powell of THOROUGHBRED TRANSMISSIONS also in Laurel, MD.

Rear is a rebuilt 8.5 10-bolt POSI with 3.08 gears.

Rebuilt suspension features new springs all around. New 7in front and 8 in wide rear chrome wheels.

Interior is all new with Year One materials. Nice aftermarket stereo and Auto Meter gauges with lime green lighting that you can see even in daylight. (doesn't show up in the pics though but does to the eye...wierd)

Rechromed bumpers, new door handles, etc, etc. Has all new AC components but never charged since i never drove the car other than to exercise.

Only negatives are 2 paint mishaps. First was when the previous owner was going to a show he swerved and his metal crate with his detailing supplies dinged the inside of the trunk and caused a small area of the clear coat to crack. Also, after I got it the pass door hinges loosened up causing door to kiss fender slightly taking some paint off. (I touched it up)

I took it to the track ONE time for a couple easy passes just to make sure it was tuned right with some CAM2 to spike the 93 to be safe and it ran 13.95 at 100 with NO burnout. So it runs as a stock 70 Stage 1 would run.....or better considering the 3.08 gears.

It is possible that this was a GSX when new due to the code 62 paint but I can't say for sure. The previous owner said he was told that it was but I'd say no. 1971 is a tough year to prove without build sheet.

Anyway, I was planning on holding on for years to come but don't want to put it in an old damp barn by the water and the county won't let me build a new garage.

Will likely put on EBAY but thought I would offer here first for $18,000. Over 30K invested. lots of receipts. One of my son's friends ships cars to Saudi Arabia but I'd rather see the car around in the US.

I have many more pictures but here are a few. Pictures taken yesterday. Those are water spots on valve cover and rear stripe. I washed and dried car then when I moved it water got on a few areas.

Sure, will take some tonite. Any other pics you guys might want? I don't sell a lot of cars so I'm not much of a salesman.

I've been to counseling re: my car addiction and as hard as it is I am now able to sell. Kidding....sort of.....

To answer some questions I received:
Floorboards look great. Looks like new front fenders and repaired rear quarters. Car has basically been in climate controlled storage since restoration. Driven only like 3 times a year. Motor fires right up with no noise even after sitting 6 months. Has Pertronix pickup and Flamethrower coil. New overflow tank has never had water in it. I keep radiator on low side so very little if any antifreeze gets into tank to keep it nice. I have a new brake booster for it but never put it on.
It has power drum brakes that work great. Very powerful braking just have to be easy on them after driving a disc car.

Hood tach works, interior oil and temp disconnected. Using the mechanical Auto Meter gauges instead.

Has big trans cooler installed as well as a finned aluminum trans pan.

Has factory rallye ride/handling with rear sway bar. I believe the tires are 235/60-15 (7 in. rim) on the front and 275/60-15 (8 in. rim) on the rear.

Headliner has some wrinkles that the upholstery guy said would come out with steaming but I never took it back to him. Didn't want to leave the car....couldn't do it while I wait....

Must see this car in person to appreciate it.
I started to go to GSX reunion at Columbus couple yrs ago but got on the highway with open trailer in pouring rain and turned around. I could not subject it to 6 hours of towing in the rain. My plan was to sell it there or at least get exposure.

I honestly think it could bring $22K on EBAY due to bigger audience/market of non-Buick collectors especially after repair of the minor paint issues. I'm getting ready to move and can't deal with it now.

    A number of people inquired:

    Rear is POSI.

Front drums are iron not aluminum. And NO disc brakes were not standard in 1971. Maybe in 1972 GS cars.

I don't think it is quick ratio power steering. Doesn't feel slow but doesn't seem as fast as my 70GSX.

No I don't have build sheet but I didn't drop the tank either.

And NO, I do not think it is a real GSX (nor am I claiming it to be one!) but it is not impossible as far as I can tell.

And yes, I have a clear title in my name.

And no! It is NOT numbers matching!:Dou:

And yes, I think it would make it to Texas no problem but why wouldn't you trailer it or have it shipped? It's a 45 yr old car.

Bruce, you have presented this car in higher than expected detail and honesty for what the picture web world can portray, I wouldn't worry about the authentic dreamers looking for trans numbers or gm stamping on axels its priced to sell GOOD JOB and nice top quality driver

I just found new headliner (saddle) from Year One that I got with the car along with visors and material to re-cover them. One that's in the car looks to have been replaced but has some wrinkles.
I am in the process of moving and am not doing any work on this car.
    Next stop EBAY.

This car is truly better looking in person than in the pics.

Just talked to the guy I bought this car from and he said he put $45K into it. This is a good deal! Car is not perfect but would cost a lot to duplicate.
If the deal I have in the works falls through he wants to buy it back! He sold it when the real estate market crashed (he's a real estate developer) but now his finances have recovered.

As explained earlier I need to sell since I will not have dry storage that this car deserves where I'm moving to.
