Yes, but they must be an upgraded version. I was surprised how much better I could see. Lots of deer around here at night.

I thought that doing the direct wire conversion with the relay was the way to go? I've never done it , do you guys know how that compares?

Everything you need to know is in the link in post 17 of this tread...

Mart - the bulbs are also listed in post 4.
Doug - the LEDs use much lower current so the relays are not needed. Halogen and other high current bulbs need relays and larger wires.
    Bob - right on!

    Thanks for the encyclopedia!
Just asking if anyone has done relays then to halogen then to led's for a real world comparison.
    Thanks

That would be an interesting comparison Doug!

Follow up - Being very careful I bent the tabs on a new housing and they fit perfect - no filing:

These are the outer or low beams.
The high beams did not fit. Of course the high beam glass bulbs are different and the housings:

Same as reported by knucklebusted. Also I noted that he used a zip tie to fill in the difference in the flange thickness. I measured almost a 1/4" difference in thickness.

Finally got the car out at night to see the headlights in action. I'm pleased. Much more light then the old bulbs and the high beams are outstanding!

I used the existing wiring and the adapter mentioned above for the high beams.

I'm thinking of trying the gs power conversion Larry mentioned. Same type of reviews.

I will. I almost hit a deer with the wildcat last week and my eyes are getting older

    That's a good website.
Reminds me of the old Hella's I run in the Ford. Replaceable bulbs, crystal glass with really good cut-offs....

Yes, that's the bulb. I used the same bulb in each of the 4 headlights but only connected the high beam circuit on 2 of them, if I remember correctly.I guess you could run all 4 in low beam but that would freak out oncoming cars! lol.

If hi beam led was wired to have hi and low LEDs powered together it would probably burn up or too much amperage?

back when i had my 65, i had aircraft landing lights for high beams. they did a wonderful job on the back roads.
idiots who didnt din their high beams where in for a shock. lol

The LEDs use very little current. Thats one big advantage. Stock wiring is fine. They put out some heat because the diode (LED) get really bright in a small small space. But its not from the current.

So if I connect both hi and low together on one bulb it might get too hot.

It's rainy here so I finally tried installing the LEDs. I only did the high beams for now. They were cheap ($60pr lens plus bulb)and almost plug and play. I didn't put any if the tabs in the notches. Just installed straight and tightened. I also cut the rubber boot and zip tied it to keep the weather out. I'll report on performance later.
