IMO, this cam is much too large for this combo, that's why your torque is low, 60' times soft, and 1/4 times WAY slow. Not to hurt your feelings, but I've had "stock" engines with only a very slight cam improvement run 15's @ 93MPH. This was with 2.56 gears also and stock dual exhaust & manifolds. Small block has ALOT of torque, don't give it all away with too large of cam!:Dou:

    :Smarty: Just my .02!

As a comparison, my '70 GS 350 with 160,000+ miles on it, bad cam, stock except for headers, ran 14.90's at sea level (Woodburn Dragstrip, Oregon). 60' was about 2.15.

It was well tuned, had 3.31 posi, and the best carb for a car of this type- the Q-jet!

Get a Q-jet, dump the Holley and any adapters if you're using one. Make sure the Q-jet secondaries open all the way using your gas pedal (have someone outside look down the carb throat while you floor it, engine off). Set your timing for 14 degrees initial, with the rest all in by 2500 rpm, 34 degrees or so total. Plug the vacuum advance for racing. Oh yeah, and have a good ignition system to begin with, you need some firepower.

You may also need a looser stall torque converter. And with that cam, shift it around 5200- 5400 rpm's, no less. Especially on the 1-2.

If I had your combo, the car would be running low 14's / high 13's at sea level. Of course, you could always give it to me to find out....:)

    350 engine

are you getting enuff fuel pressure?octane high enuff?really needs a 3 series gear, i have a lighter 83 regal body with a 9 to 1 350 that runs 14.56 pretty much all day long with stock intake and exhaust manifolds and poston 118 cam and q-jet rejetted ,350 trans with 2200 stall,3.42 open rear with catalitic converters.it needs nor stall but with an open rear i dont have much traction problems.my engine spins to 6500 without much problem but power dont come in til 3200 ,hei with recurve kit. what kind of pistons do you have ?heads shaved?shim or compostion head gaskets? good valve springs?

    Q jet jets

    Andy,

What jets are you running in your q-jet? I have close to the same engine including the GS118 cam, does yours pull like mad from 3500 to 6000 like mine?

hey yea mine actually starts to pull hard close to 3000 and just pulls harder from there but im not sure of jetting as a local shop built it after i told them what i was doing . the cam should be pulling ar 2500 according to poston thou i think mine pulls later due to my catalitic converters but not sure andy:TU:

    I had two GS350's

I had a 72 GS350 with well over 150,000 miles that only had the
    timing chain replaced/valve seal's.Best E.T. was 15.06

Had a 71 GS350 that I ran at the pure stock drag's last fall.
    80,000 mile car. Best E.T. was 15.36. Had a couple 2.09 60' times,
the rest were in the 2.1x's(teen's)

    Both of these car's were tire fryer's, with 255 60 15 BFG TA's.
These car's would lay rubber like alot of big block car's.

Both of these car's were 100% bone stock with crappy muffler
    shop exhaust system's and 3.08 gear's TH350 auto's.
Both had Q-jet's, both had point's.

That just reminded me......When you installed the HEI, you DID
remember to run a full 12 volt hot wire to the distributor, did'nt
    you?
If not, that will make a car run like crap!:eek2:
