    I just got the trunk open on the Skylark I recently purchased. I found the factory original AM/FM radio. Is this an item I should keep? What might a fully functional unit like this be worth?

    If I were you I would keep the am/fm radio and install it back in the dash to keep the stock look. Then you can install a hidden modern am/fm cd player either in the glovebox or in an underdash 8-track player if you can find one. Here is an article on how to do it;

    If it's working, probably $150-200. If it's a true stereo unit, add ?. Definately keep it!! or give it to me cheap if you don't wan:) t it!

    No stereo units were ever available in 70-71 Skylark bodies. Some here say thye may have been used in late 72. Strangely Oldsmobile always offered the stereo in their "A" bodies back then. 70 Olds even used a 2 piece unit with the second piece hidden up under the dash.

    Andy, let me know where you can find a good working AM-FM radio for these cars for $150.00-$200.00! Every time I look I see them listed for $350-$500! :rolleyes: :eek2: There's a couple on eBay now for those kinds of prices.

    my 2 cents - If you are going with a hidden or secret radio, you can buy an AM radio for next to nothing to stick in the dash - then you can sell the AM FM for big bucks - enough to pay for a modern set up!

    It seems to me the refurbished ones are the ones going for huge money. As far a Stereo units not being available in '71, that may be true, but who knows if what he has is original? Just throwing it out there. He asked for an opinion, and I gave him mine, albeit on the conservative side. No sense making him think he's going to get rich. Instead of nitpicking my opinion, give him YOUR opinion :blast: Some of you guys kill me.

    Didn't know I was doing that, sorry if I ruffled your feathers:Do No: All I know is my own personal experience looking for a good working AM-FM for over 2 years and not seeing a single one for less than $350. Sure the higher-priced ones are likely refurbished and cost more, that 's not a huge surprise, I think. Enough said, all I did was provide my own opinion and experience. :rolleyes:
