Found a '71 225 2-door with posi and complete engine. What is the difference between removing this posi unit and one in a 10-bolt? I've done a few 10-bolts but, never a big car. Also, should I save the gears or not worry about it. The pinion bolt is always a treat at the junkyard. Let me know any tips and tricks as I don't want to roll in the mud too long. The car is pretty trashed but,may have some usable parts if anybody needs something. Thanks

Oopss I forgot to really check the axle on the electra I found at the yard, I just saw it was a 12 bolt, then I got to carried away with other things. Now for the 68th time, there's a little tag that says posi lube or something, is that sticking out from under a bolt on the cover or somewhere else? Then there's a code stamped on there somewhere, where is it located and what should it be? I guess the best way to really find out would be to lift the cover but that gets kind of messy.

    Cheers...

Passenger side of the axle tube close to the Hogs head and near the top or top front.

Got it, maybe I'll make it out there tomorrow. Another question, what does a four note horn look like? Any chance to tell the difference by looking at them?

Kimson, this is a guess but there are your regular two small horns a long trumpet-like horn and something else. I think the first two are up high in the front and the other two horns would be down below? :Do No: Smartin would know for sure.

    for anyone else's information..

"The four-note horn is a much different sound than the normal horn you
usually hear. If you have the 4-note horns, then you will see a long
slender trumpet-like horn on the front drivers side engine compartment."

a long slender trumpet-like horn.......... Sounds really good, I'll have to keep looking for one of those. :)

    Thanks Martin

We're talking about horns now? I LOVE how these posts can get off-track...haha. I'm serious, I think it's a blast. It's nice to have a board where you can actually have FUN without people flame-spraying you for cracking a few jokes. I don't know why I'm posting... I know nothing about drivetrains... except that I want a posi on my Riv'.

    posi

I don't think I'm going to put the rear on my car,I just figured a posi rear was something that shouldn't get crushed. Anyone be interested in the whole rear housing if I cut it out? I'll probably remove the brakes and backing plates to save a few bucks. Let me know and I'm in the Omaha area. I'd just charge what the yard charges me and enough extra to buy some cold ones. Let me know,Brian
