What's up with block stamp? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...0314159?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2c6902382f
That car looks like the real McCoy and so does the block stamping.....finally, a barn find car that is actually what its claimed to be!
Car looks legit to me as well. Is owned by a long time Buick fan. He also has a white 4-speed GSX in his stable. I have been thinking about an air conditioned car, I'll certainly consider this one.
The first one is definitely an 8. Second looks like an S. That trans looks like it's been covered in a half inch of horse crap.
To me it looks like the VIN is actually stamped. The block stamp looks like it is too deep, wide and there are no irregularities in width, almost like it was engraved. And that first letter is not an 'S'. Something just looks weird.
Haha Dumas, TX. Knowing that place, the trans probably was in a pile of poo. Lots of feed lots in that town!
I don't post many comments here, but I have to say now that the rude comments here are out of control. Anytime anyone post a picture about a car they are proud of, a few have to pick it to death without any facts or knowledge of what goes into a restoration. I have proudly lived in Dumas, Texas for my whole life. There are no feedlots in the town. Only one within 5 miles. Unemployment here is less than 5%. We are a hardworking community. My family & I have owned and operated our dealership for more that 45 years. Our reputation in our community and many otheres surrounding us is impeccable. You have never been here, been to my place of business, competed against me in racing or car shows, or owned a vehicle I have restored. This response is in regards to the comments about a car I have on ebay. If you had andy true knowledge of Buick and how they were built in 1970, you would know that the factory surface grinding can not be reproduced. I have built over 16 GS's and not any of them would have matched any other . These cars were built on a assembly line. We are all at the mercy of the guy stamping that day. If they did not have the correct stamp in hand, substitutions were commenly made. i.e. "p" for "9" , "8" for "s", "b" for"6". I glady welcome any challeger who wants to come here in person to verify their claims that I am trying to conterfiet the stamping on this block. I remember when the GS Club began , we all worked together to encourage and build an interest in Buicks. GS owners had to stick together to show the rest of world how special a Buick is. My listing has my phone number to answer questions regarding this car. It is truely a special and LEGIT car.
Not a single person here said your car wasn't LEGIT. Nobody said it was a counterfeit block. Actually there were a good number of positive comments. There was a question about the block stamp (not the rest of the car) and people gave their opinions. That's what happens. You don't have to agree with everyone's opinion, that's your right. They all have the same right to state that opinion. I still find it odd that they would have use an "8" when there is an "S" right next to it. I don't know, that's just what it looks like to me and I never said it wasn't authentic. Yes, the plant did strange things. If you have the documentation from the GS Historical Society then it doesn't matter. That's what I'd go by anyway. It's a nice car with a lot of potential no doubt about it. :TU: And if you're mad about a disparaging comment about your hometown I have no sympathy. I'm from Flint and there aren't many cities that get hammered more than that one.
The stampings on this block look a lot better and more legit than a few I saw at the GS Nationals this year on "numbers matching" cars in the car show........
They stamp in a gang and something might have happened to the extra S. It would be interesting to find a few of the stage 1s before and after to see the stamping. It is an 8 that has been modified but to me the stamping looks legit. Also the broach marks look good.<o></o> <o></o> Nelson <o></o>
