This is something many people (including myself) struggle with. Keep in mind that the comments to follow are opinion.

A color change probably would hurt value to a "deep pockets-I want it correct" collector. To the average auto enthusiast? Probably not. But....how many average enthusiasts could qualify to be in the market for a pristine Stage 1 convertible anyway?

Over the years as I have seen restorations completed on these cars, I have said to myself (and to others), "that color actually looks pretty good when it is fresh". This is the case with the Gibson and Horseman Seamist Green cars, and with the Harvest Gold convertible GSJO restored a few years ago. There are even a few Bamboo Cream cars in the community that look VERY good. I used to like none of these colors, but when seen on a fresh restoration they really are quite attractive.

The way I look at it now, after many years of being in this hobby, is that it makes no sense to turn a matching number-code correct car into a car that is not.

Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

If I choose to change an "Earth Tone" color into one that is more pleasing to my eye....so be it.

Easier to undo that than do a complete resto.

Never worry what the next owner may think, will drive you crazy, in a hurry.

    I think you are correct.

Someone spent some time polishing that car and it looks like it has paid off.
That car is going to need a lot of work. Private bidders make me question the bids.
I would not pay that, there are better buys if you want to do that much work.

    Yes it will.

Yes seller set the price but that does not mean thats what its worth. Some sellers set there price to high (ME  ) and some set them to low (CJP69  ) 69 stage vert ring a bell. That said you cant say thats what the market bears when its not up for auction publicly. Even then BS bidders affect what is real and what is not.

What I hate is when someone sets the price then changes it to ask more.

13 Total Big block convertibles were produced in KC at the Leeds plant in Harvest gold. That includes 455 and Stage 1. 64 at flint. Less then 100 total convertibles for 70 were produced in Harvest gold. Not the rarest color, but at the bottom.

And here I thought 80% of the 70 model year run was painted Bamboo Cream. :Dou: :bla:

Ever notice that practically every 69 GTO ever made is painted Verdero green?

Ever heard of shill bidding. I'm not saying thats going on here but I know for a fact that it happens a lot on Ebay. Its easy to cheat on Ebay and it does happen a good bit.

just about every 68 GTO was Voodoo green..supposidly..they where bought by ex military...(just kidding there where lots of other colors...but i couldnt buy any just brown and green for me)

i sat here and thought about it, and almost every 70 or 71 i have had was either harvest gold or dark brown....

my buddys 70 GS 455 convert was gold with sandlewood but black top

i had 1 71 GS 350 that was tropical lime...and 1 72 that was blue...all the others where brown or gold...i owned a 71 stage car that was gold and we painted it black...(i owned it for about a month...)

    I had a buddy with a Bamboo 70 GS 455 convert....it was nice...realy nice survivor..

i have 3 pontiacs rght now in gold..and i like it now..kinda refreshing...

soooo..errrey body....brown/gold was popular in the St Louis market (or maybe the only reason i got gold or brown is because no one else wanted them...)....what was popular in yours?

Around 1977 the people that bought our old house had a car that was identical to this car at least to the best of my memory. It was sharp and very fast no surprise there. I never could get them to run my 69 442 that strangely enough was close to the same color. It was strange how we all knew that GS was going to be worth a lot of money some day but I never gave my 442 a second thought, I beat the heck out of it.Now I'd kill for ether one god I miss that 442 and that was only one of many, what a dumb kid I was

why am I so annoyed by the pharse, "I'm selling it for a friend, but...." And then I see a street rod in the background?

As for the barn find part of the story I think it's been overused too often lately. Like it is supposed to add to the value somehow.

OK I am surprised that the reserve has not been met at 33.8k !!!

I figured it would go for at or just above 30k but at this point I am very surprised it has not met reserve and I am wondering how high this will go. Hmmm guess the economy for some is better than I thought
