Hey guys, after having the Skylark for a year or two my Dad and I have kinda decided to sell it and devot more time on my Fairlane and his 50 Merc. It is a 70 Skylark Convertible w/350 automatic. The motor runs, but we think the head gasket is bad on the passenger side as its blowing out white smoke out of that dual. The top works, and the body is solid with the exception of some rust on the bottom of the driverside fender(I remember that side for sure, Id be safe and say the passenger side too), and the passenger rear quarter needs fixed. Its not rusted but the lady who owned it before backed into a pole in a parking lot and knocked the bumper into the quarter. To go along w/the car we have a 455 out of a 73 that was built to 70 GS specs(supposedly). We had bought the engine off of a guy that my Dad had worked with. It was in a 76 Regal that he parked for like 5 or 6 years. When he parked it he put like 12 quarts of diesel oil in the motor so it wouldnt rust and seize up. We drained the oil and got the bad boy running and it ran strong. After we yanked it out of the Regal, we pulled the valve covers and noticed the rod was bent, due to gunk from the diesel oil on the valve. So we had the heads tore down and now we have just lost interest in it. So how much do you guys think a 70 Skylark 350 auto w/a 455 turbo400 would go for? I realize you dont have any pics to go buy but what would be a rough estimate? We were thinking $3500, but dont really have a background in GM stuff. Thanks guys and gals. Josh
"Low retail" value is given for our cars on either Kelly Blue Book's or NADA's sites for about 4700 bucks, if I remember. But that is for a car in 'poor condition that needs professional work but can be driven and licensed' or somesuch High value is over 15 grand if I recall Too bad you're getting rid of it. It doesn't have pointed lenses on your instrument gauges by any chance, does it? Or a plastic radiator top brace and a clear top overflow tank?
