Ok, would like to get a posi for my 1970 Skylark with a 350 2 Barrell Stock. From what I know, I have a 8.2 2.6? gear open rear end. I've been looking around for 8.2 posi units, and carriers, but I read today that the 8.2's are weak, and I would like to have a nice buildup one day, and since I'm a teenager, it would probably take more abuse than normal. Now I'm thinking about getting a 8.5 3.~~ posi, question is; will the housing and driveshaft bolt right up? How about brakes? What year 8.5's will fit? Thanks -Slawek :3gears:
The 8.5" rear from a 71-72 gm A body will work. The drive shaft will need to be around 3/4" shorter. Your brakes will be the same. Good luck with your project. Dave
Thanks for the reply. So if I find a 71-72 A-body with a 8.5 and driveshaft, I can just put the new driveshaft and posi right on my 70 lark? Just making sure. Thanks
The 71-72 rear axle will bolt into your car no problem. You will be able to use your brakes no problem. The driveshaft maybe. Your car has a turbo 350 trans, the donor car will need to have a turbo 350 trans. If the donor car has a turbo 400 trans the driveshaft will be too short for your car with a turbo 350. If the donor car has a turbo 400 trans keep the driveshaft for future upgrades.
