I know I have the low production seats but I was wondering about the door panels. Many of the Customs I see have the "Custom" emblem in the middle.
Mine has the trim and the carpet along the bottom but no emblem.
I was just curious to know how many different types were available for the 70. Were there different levels within the Custom series itself?
    Thanks

I have never seen that door panel on a 70. It is not a Custom or Skylark panel. So, you don't have the Custom emblem because you don't have the Custom door panel which is the same as GS panel and has the waffle pattern.
You can see the door panels on www.opgi.com or www.legendaryinteriors.com

George, that is a Buick door panel. Mark has the very low production brocade cloth interior. Bruce Kyle of the BCA has the same interior in his Skylark and it is for real. I had never seen one either, but they did make them, albeit very few.

Thanks for the clarification Brad. I called Bruce a couple of summers ago after you told me about him having the same car. We talked about the seats in our cars but the door panels never came up. The upper part of the panels having the button tufted look does match that of the seats. I hadn't seen any others.
    Thanks again. :TU:

Thanks Brad. Must not have been a big seller when they were new. First time for me seeing that pattern! I must have seen at least 1000 Skylark/GS models by now and never saw that pattern. Always learning something new! :Smarty:

My '70 Skylark Custom had those same door panels and cloth seats (black) originally. I still have the door panels in nice shape too, but the seats are long gone. Any idea how many came with that interior?

Some must have been wagons because some of those panels found their way into my 69 Special wagon as replacements. If anyone knows of a 4 door driver front panel, I can use it.

I have that interior in my car. It is also pictured in the large 1970 dealer brochure pg 47 top left. Seat material is called kenora cloth. I had my seats reupholstered with the original material last year.

Mark, In the brochure the options were 1. Kenora cloth and vinyl bench seat, 2. All vinyl bench seat, 3. All vinyl buckets 4. all vinyl notch back seat

in the pics only the kenora cloth doesnt have the custom emblem on the door panel. From what I can gather in my personal picture collection of 70 customs and from the brochure there were only two types of door panels that came on 70 customs.

    Andy,
Thanks for the info. Who was able to supply the Kenora cloth? Could you post some pics of your cars interior?
    Thanks

    no problem Mark. www.smsautofabrics.com

I'm not happy with the front seat. I asked the guy that did the work to install new springs, and foam and whatever it took to make them new. Instead he too k a couple months longer than he said and he left all the old springs and foam. To make up for the old foam he installed some new foam over the old. This made the buttons sink way down. The guy says he will fix it. One of these days soon I will get the seat back to him. The cloth is dead on exact. I also had to buy the ribbed material for the back of the seat and the plain black vinyl for the sides and inserts. I spent $400.00 at SMS.

I'm stunned- never saw that before

I like the door panels, but the seats I can do without. I really prefer the madrid/waffle grain seats personally. But the chrome trim on the door panel really brightens up the interior on a black interior car, I like it

Mark, That sure does look close. Maybe it was green originally? The interior of that car is amazing. A little dye and that car would look new.

I dropped my seat off at the upholstery shop last Wed. I sure hope he does it right this time. I'll take some pics and post em here.

If I remember right, my Dads 70 Wildcat had a similar pattern too. I would love to come across a Skylark with that interior though, Nice guys :TU:

    Andy,
    Looks great! :TU:
Getting mine recovered is now on the to-do list.
I know they are not everyone's first choice but I've got to say that in addition to providing a different look they are also really comfortable.
Thanks again for providing the SMS info.
