I am going to look at a car, supposedly vin is 43437, owner states it is matching #'s, but has no GS badging anywhere? Not even a GS hood. I was under the impression that you could only get a 455 in the GS, not a regular skylark? Was a 350 4spd available in a Skylark?

I will try to get the rest of the vin and will post it later. Thanks!

Wait for someone to confirm this but I think you can get a 4 speed in a skylark. I know you cant get a 455 but a 350 4 speed sounds doable. I dont know about the 43437 vin though. Someone has their information wrong.

43437 is a GS 350. It can be a rebody so be careful. Most likely someone bought a stripped GS 350 and used Skylark hood and such. You can get info from Wayne Roberts on the car or Sloan if its an early build 70

Well, vin is 434370H280xxx. Is trans id in the vin or the cowl tag only? Any info on what to look for to verify id would be greatly appreciated!

Trans ID on on the passenger side of the Muncie case, vertical, and it is on the main case side of where the tail shaft housing meets. It should read "0H280xxx.... (the car's sequence number).

If it has the accessory codes, the 4 speed designation is Group 2, with the Letter L. (or 2L). For a 70 Flint made car I would expect to see this on the cowl tag after ACC.

    Thanks for the info, guys!:TU:

I have yet to see this car, it is a good distance away, and he wants all the money. Even a matching #'s 350 std in the condition this car is in (described) would be a stretch. I guess I'll have to decode the cowl tag and check some other stuff out to be certain.

Jim, thanks for the heads up on the trans #'s:TU:

4 speeds were not available in a Skylark.
