dos anybody know if in 1970 the shoulder belt was an option or not. Did they all com with shoulder belts? It has a bench seat...not sure if that makes any difference. I got pulled over for not having shulderharnesss in my car...grr i hate california!!! I was on a trip there from az...and in az i dont need shulder belts...but they wont drop the fix it ticket.

Welp we could go into some old US Supreme Court cases which could be said to make the Cal attempt to enforce their shoulder belt regs on interstate commerce unenforcable as a violation of the federal interstate clause of the US Constitution. But the practical problem is that you would need some expensive legal firepower to press that.

I wonder what Cal would say about a 70 convertible that has no provision for shoulder harness anchors. Would they say you cannot drive your convert in Cal?

    That's a good question.

I don't know if they were options or not, but for reference my '70 Custom did come with them. You'd be off the hook if you could prove they were not standard equip.

    Found this:
Federal law required shoulder belts to be installed in the front seat of new cars starting in the 1968 model year.
DIdn't say you had to use them, though.
