This is one nice car and the owner (ED) is a standup guy. He will answer your questions honestly. From what I remember all the sheet metal is original along with the complete drivetrain. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-Buick-GS-/260979426309?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3cc3960405 <o></o> Nelson
Wow, that's nice! I owned its twin 20 years ago, mine just was not as nice as this car. Being all manual I bet that car is a handfull at times. Wonder how high the bidding will go
Korrie, If that car was 30, me and 20 other guys would be all over it. 75k reserve. Troy ---------- Post added at 06:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 PM ---------- Korrie, If that car was 30, me and 20 other guys would be all over it. 75k reserve. Troy
3/15/2012 10:00pm EDT, 92 bids, $30,000 so far, reserve not met. Troy's estimate of a $75,000 reserve is fairly close I think.
75 thousand is pretty lofty. But given it's a private auction, anything can happen. Not a big fan of that type of auction myself. Too much nefarious activity....at times.
No. In Fact I don't think this car would sell quickly, if at all, at a $75,000 asking price in the current market. But my comment was on the auction reserve. It would not surprise me if the reserve is that amount.
Why not ? 2 non numbers 4 speeds recently sold for that range, Albiet it nicely restored. You can shine one up, but you can never replace the missing powertrain. DL
:TU: X2. They only made 6XX Stage1 four speed cars including X's. Anything under 1000 is made considered extremely rare. And in most cases cars with that low of production numbers, with matching numbers bring close to or over six figures even in today's market.
DL. I am aware of one such car that sold recently (past 6 months), but was led to beleive it was a numbers car, and the word survivor was being used. As I recall it was in the $70,000 neighborhood. Maybe a different car than those you mention? I assume one of the cars to which you refer was the Horsman Seamist green car, which was simply beautiful. Jim. I will admit that if a car can fetch that price right now, that it would be a red one. And any car, as this one is alleged, that has retained it's original drive train AND it's original sheet metal is a very desirable animal indeed. I have my doubts that this will occur via an eBay auction though.
There were actually 782 70 Stage 1 4 speed hardtops made in total according to the DCR's. If you subtract the 118 of those that became GSX's, were left with 664. Very rare indeed. Ive always wondered how many of the 664 are actually left. They say on average only 10% survive due to attrition. Im not sure if this is an accurate number though. I wish my 70 was that nice!
Like I said Ed is a good guy and will be honest with you. He also has a numbers matching survivor GSX 4 spd Non stage car for sale. <o></o> Nelson - -

Back in 1989 or so, I hooked my brother up with a1970 Stage 1 4speed car for $600! Basket case with no motor but all else was there for the most part. The motor was in back of an old van out back but he never got it. The guy selling it had 20 or so Gran Sports in the field behind his house and in his garage. I could kick myself for not buying it all. Live and learn. I would love a stage 1 4 speed car now!!!
I agree with everything written about the car.Rare, original, numbers matching, low production, honest description but I don't think in this economy it will bring anywhere near 75,000.Buicks just don't get the respect they deserve. If this was a LS6 with the same options and colors I could see 75,000 maybe more. I hope I'm wrong but I say 50,000 tops. Tom
