'70 Posi Big Car rear axle

I have the following axle available for sale. I recently got it just for a pair of sport rims that were attached to it and, unfortunately, don't know the condition of it. I was told it came out of a '70 Electra. I'll answer any questions as best as I can. I live in MA. near I-495 and I-95 exchange. First $200.00 takes it.

You need to find the codes stamped into the axle tubes....that will tell you the ratio.....they should be visible as you have thje bottom facing up. They will be 4-5 inches past the cast center section.Wipe all the grease off and lightly wire brush the tube ....they should be visible.

What are or how many numbers or letters supposed to be on the axle tube housing?

 

Usually there's a zero with an x in it to denote a posi unit and then there will be a two letter code for the ratio close by.......keep looking...it should be there.....may not be exactly on the bottom.........get that two letter code and i can tell you the ratio.

The code I found was PO or P0. Difficult to tell if is a zero or the letter O

 

A PO code is a 2.78 ratio economy rear posi.

If someone is interested at all they will pay the $200.00. In order to verify it, you may need to remove the cover and take a picture of the numbers on the ring gear.

 

What does PJ 156 come out as?
