Ok I have 70 Lark with a 350 2 barrel iI am starting to have an issue and I cannot quite put my finger on it the car was running perfectly fine when my daughter was driving during her first year of college and now it seems to either be loading up or something...

Here is what the car is doing I will fire the car up say like in the afternoon it fires right up and idles fine I can take it around the block and as I am pulling into the driveway to pull back in the garage it stumble over itself and it seems like it is bogging I get black smoke out the tail pipe and the car shuts off and that exhaust REALLY smells bad......by accident I happen to notice that after the car has shut down it looks like fumes coming out of the exhaust tip.

After about five minutes I go to retry and start the car it will not start unless I hold down the accelerator and it finally catches......could it be possible that the carb needs a rebuild , or maybe the floats are stuck open and it is loading the carb up and that is why it shuts off?

Thanks in advance greatly appreciate any and all advice!!!

Sounds like it is flooding out. Take the air cleaner off when it happens. If you see gasoline leaking out of the throttle shaft area, or puddled on the intake, it is flooding. Could be a bad float, dirt in the needle/seat. Have a look at the plugs, they may be carbon fouled.

Also, check and make sure the choke is all the way open when the engine is warm. My guess is, it could be re sing shut or nearly shut.
